Root and branch probe needs to stay clear of the same old ground...

The intention is good, but we’ve been here before…

THE Government’s ‘root-and-branch’ probe into the state of the rail industry will hopefully sort out some of its current woes, but I suspect I’m not alone in having a sense of déjà vu.

It’s considered likely, for example, that the report by former British Airways chairman Keith Williams could recommend a ‘controlling mind’ or ‘central command’ to oversee and co-ordinate the many facets of the industry.
