    How long have you been a keen gardener and what got you into it?

    I have only been gardening for four years now. Before I turned 40 I was looking for a hobby – I tried tropical fish, jigsaws, puzzles but none of them excited all of my senses. Years ago I applied for an allotment and never heard back, so gave that up. But then I reapplied. I got on the list and had one for my 40th birthday. I inherited a patch of land that was in a terrible state, but it was up to me to decide what to grow, when and how.
