SCOTT REDDING THE WILD ONE

Scott Redding seems to be the bike racing equivalent of Marmite; people seem to either love him or loathe him. Alright yeah, his hair can be a bit dodgy at times, and his spelling needs a bit of work (like yours, Carl – Ed) but it’s not often you find a racer with as much heart and spirit as the #45; not to mention the fact he has a sense of humour the size of HRC’s crash budget. Who else could be responsible for dislocating Marquez’s shoulder just minutes after he won a world championship? Or would consider it a good idea to strip to his boxers on the cooldown lap after his last GP in the pouring rain at Valencia? It sure as hell wouldn’t be Pedrosa. And it’s not even just his crazed on track antics that have brought a smile to many a fan; if you’ve managed to follow any of Redding’s social media channels you’ll have seen that he’s basically bat-sh*t crazy… 24/7.

And this is all in spite of a fairly turbulent career that’s seen more peaks and troughs than a freshly ploughed field. Through years of shoddy bikes, crap teams and more handicaps than a game of golf with Tiger Woods, Redding has managed to come out fighting, at one point nearly grabbing that elusive Moto2 title after a yearlong battle with Pol Espargaro. He’s beaten the likes of Folger, Vinales and Marquez one on one, and was even the youngest ever rider to win a Grand Prix up until Valencia last year.
