BETA RISES

It’s an interesting time to be Beta. The family-owned Italian company has been in business since 1905, when it was founded as a bicycle manufacturer. The switch to motorcycles came in 1946 and the off-road models first appeared in 1970. That’s a long time to be at this game and the brand is witnessing something of a recent surge, with one enduro world title after another coming over the last three years. In 2018 alone, Beta won four rider titles and three manufacturer titles — a massive effort for any brand in any year.

Looking at some facts and figures, we can report that Beta’s greatest sales (53 per cent) come from enduro models, with 63 per cent of those being two-stroke. Most of the sales are in Europe with Italy and France the biggest markets, and production trends show an increase year-on-year with 19,649 bikes built in 2017 compared to
