TarraWarra Museum of Art
Tarrawarra is a Wurundjeri word that translates approximately as ‘slow moving water’ and is the name given to the area in which the Museum is located. Situated in the spectacular Yarra Valley, on the cusp of outer Melbourne and inner regional Victoria, the Museum is uniquely positioned to deliver the important history of Australian modernism and new developments in contemporary art to a large cross section of the Victorian public. TarraWarra Museum of Art is a not-for-profit public museum and a member of the Public Galleries Association of Victoria. It has a charter to display Australian and international art from the second half of the twentieth century to the present day. TarraWarra Museum of Art was designed by acclaimed Melbourne architect Allan Powell, built by Probuild Construction and opened to the public in 2003. The elegant, voluminous and flexible spaces are ideal for the presentation of both modern and contemporary art and it won the Premier’s Design Award in 2004.
