Part 2 Kiwi 1932 Ford 5-window coupes

THIS month we’re both pleased and proud to present Part 2 of our revelation of all known examples of the 37 new NZ 1932 5-window coupes imported by Ford. It’s the result of many, many hours of laborious checking, research, investigation and follow-up from our dedicated team so hats off to all who helped bring you this milestone article.

13. GREG HIDDLESTON CHRISTCHURCH

THIS coupe was first put together by Allex Polley in Auckland in the late ‘50s. Alex recalls, “I picked it up in Mt Albert about two miles from where I lived at 33 Huia Rd, Pt Chevalier. I can’t remember who I bought it off, but it consisted of a body on chassis (already cut), and a Merc Motor in bits and pieces. I can remember the shed it was in did have a dirt floor, but it’s too long ago to remember the address in Mt Albert. I was an apprentice motor mechanic for NZ Railway Road Services and thought it would be a good project because I’d just come out of my time and wanted something to do. It had a ‘39 Merc gearbox, diff and a ‘32 front end, (fenders were missing) plus it had a Model A rear spring and crossmember. I stripped it down, put an insert in the roof then bogged it over the top and spent hours getting it right (garage was full of bog dust) for months after.
