The Waco Kid

AT the end of World War 2, a young soldier Tom Orren was discharged from the military in San Diego, CA. Anxious to return home to Waco, Texas he bought a stock 1929 Ford Model A roadster: A week later he arrived in Waco.

While serving in the military his mechanical skills were honed, like many soldiers, and he began modifying the old car. He bought a donor car a 1939 Ford and built what you see here..... a very early version of a channelled car with a V8 and a chopped screen. With all the modifications and added power by the late forties or early fifties, he had the fastest car in Waco.

One day in 1955 a brand new Chevy pulled up next to him at the stoplight. The little hot rod roadster was beaten off the mark by a showroom stock family sedan! Tom drove the roadster home, parked it in the garage and there it sat. It’d become obsolete in Tom’s eyes and he never drove it again.
