Creating a Space
In the last issue, we looked at the importance of light and the ways in which you can use the lighting in your studio to enhance your painting. In this issue, I would like to discuss the fundamental question of space. Not everyone has the luxury of a “room of one’s own”. Many people don’t have the space for a studio, or enjoy the separation of work and home. In discussing studio spaces with artist friends, a common theme which arose when working at home was the fumes of oil paint: “It’s too smelly and too messy, and there is nowhere to store things”, one friend stated.
