Hornby ‘87’ glides in

ANNOUNCED almost two years ago at the Warley exhibition, Hornby’s newly tooled Class 87 has now arrived with retailers. The ‘OO’ gauge model has initially appeared in BR Rail blue as No 87035 Robert Burns, featuring the original cross-arm pantograph design, and also as No. 87010 King Arthur in Intercity Swallow colours with a Brecknell-Willis high speed pantograph.

The latter was painted in Swallow at Glasgow Works in October 1992, carrying the livery until early 1999 when Virgin colours were applied. A third Class 87, portraying Virgin Trains’ No. 87019 Winston Churchill, has been announced, but this is not due until next summer.
