No ‘Black Five’ but Crewe sends two locos to SVR gala

THE disappointment caused by the non-availability of Stanier‘Black Five’ No. 45231 The Sherwood Forester, which was to join the Severn Valley Railway fleet for the busy summer season before starring at its showcase autumn steam gala, has been more than made up for by Crewe promising two other members of its main line fleet instead.

With No. 45231 undergoing extended maintenance and therefore grounded for all of the summer season, the Royal Scot Locomotive and Crewe shedmate, BR Standard No. 70000 , to help create a remarkable 11-locomotive line-up for the September 20-23 event.
