‘The more I practise, the luckier I get’ is a nice aphorism attributed to various golfers, most of whom claim they coined it. It could apply pretty well to Colin Shepherd, who’s never been without an American car since his first 1964 Cadillac, bought for a couple of hundred quid back in 1975. Since then, other Cadillacs have come and gone, along with a squadron of Corvettes, some Trans Ams and many others from the golden postwar years of America’s motor industry. And were they all lovely? Er, possibly not.
So after all that practice, it’s not surprising that Colin should get lucky with a find like this. Because luck is only a small part of it – you need judgment, experience and patience, and above all you have to be looking. And then you need to be prepared to do something about it.
