Plants with a twist
On a sparkling day, I’ve joined weaver Anaheke Metua under a cool copse of trees near Brown Lake on Stradbroke Island, Queensland. Through her connection to nature and natural fibres, Anaheke teaches people to weave both traditional and creative pieces from found materials.
After an hour of meditative weaving and sharing, the result was the creation of a beautiful twist-weave bag. This cute bag is durable yet beautifully artistic. It’s perfect for storing garlic, stationery items, stones, shells or other collectibles.
The bag is made from just two materials: raffia from raffia palm and the old dry seed head (inflorescence) of the Bangalow
