MATERIALS

• 10cm ( 1/8yd) each of five assorted print fabrics (centre hexagons); Leigh used red, brown, teal, gold and pink fabrics in her quilt
• Fat quarter light pink print fabric (centre block background)
• 15cm ( 1/4yd) each of at least 10 assorted print fabrics (Borders 1-3); instructions will refer to the colours that Leigh used
• Assorted cream print fabrics to total about 1.5m (1 3/4yd) (Border 2 and 3 backgrounds)
• 1m (1 1/8yd) each of a green print fabric and an orange print fabric (Borders 2, 3 and 6)
• 2.5m (2 3/4yd) border print fabric (Borders 4 and 7) – see Note and Leigh’s Border Print Tips
• 1.5m (1 5/8yd) blue stripe print fabric (Border 5 and binding) – see Leigh’s Border Print Tips
• 2.15m (2 3/8yd) extra-wide backing fabric
• Batting at least 215cm (85in) square
• 73 pre-cut 5/8in paper hexagons or template plastic and stiff paper to make your own
• Fine hand-sewing needles and thread (English paper piecing and hand piecing)
• Water-soluble fabric glue (optional)
• Freezer paper
• Fine mechanical pencil
• Rotary cutter, ruler, 90-degree triangle and cutting mat

• Sewing machine with 1/4in foot
• General sewing supplies

Finished size: 194cm (76 1/2in) square

Note: Read all the instructions before starting the project. It is recommended that fabrics be 100% cotton, pre-washed and well ironed. Requirements are based on fabric 107cm (42in) wide, except for the extra-wide backing fabric. The amount of fabric listed for the border print assumes that the design is such that you will be able to cut six wide stripes and six narrow stripes down the length of the fabric. If the print you wish to use provides fewer pattern repeats than this, you will need to buy 3.3m (3 1/2yd). A seam allowance of 1/4in is used throughout unless stated otherwise. Instructions are given for using the printed Pattern Sheet in the magazine, but you can also download the digital patterns from www.homespun.net.au  and print them out.
