Note: Read all of the instructions before starting the project. Leigh used Japanese yarn-dyed fabrics for her quilt. She purchased her pre-printed sashiko panel from Bebe Bold, website: www.bebebold.com . It is recommended that fabrics be 100% cotton, pre-washed and well ironed. Requirements are based on fabrics 107cm (42in) wide and backing fabric 240cm (94 1/2in) wide. Seam allowances of 1/4in are used for the piecing. Press all the seams open unless otherwise stated. Leigh recommends using fine cotton batting without scrim as this gives a lovely soft finish to the quilt. Techniques used in this project include needleturn appliqué, improvisational foundation piecing, English paper piecing, partial seams and curved piecing and a good working knowledge of these techniques is assumed. The appliqué designs lend themselves to a variety of techniques, so adapt the instructions to suit your preferred method. Instructions are given for using the printed Pattern Sheet in the magazine, but you can also download the digital patterns from www.homespun.net.au and print them out.

SASHIKO BLOCKS
