BERIK RUSH RACE SUIT
When we test bike gear such as a new set of leathers, we usually only speak of its conformability, features and its claimed safety specifications. These garments, while designed to look and feel good, are primarily made for safety in an accident. In short, we can’t really gauge how well they work in a prang unless we throw ourselves along the tarmac.
Well, in this case, I can because, ashamedly, I did just that.
After a long day at the track, I got overconfident and went for an extra few degrees of lean, lost the rear and slid off the circuit. You know what they say: never go out in the last session.
It wasn’t a biggie, but it was large enough to call a crash. I know this because my mates won’t let me hear the end of it, but I digress.
Fortunately, both the bike and I stayed in once piece and I walked away with all but my ego intact.
I was probably travelling at less than 60km/h, but I landed hard on my left side. The Berik Rush suit has large internal protectors on each hip, which my previous set didn’t. I firmly believe that these pads were pivotal in allowing me to walk away unscathed.
None of this is rocket science, I know. But they protected me in a prang, so they have my tick of approval. They also look a million bucks, which I won’t pretend to ignore.
