PETER WEGNER

Peter Wegner may seem to be something of an anachronism in an age of video and installation, but as his paintings and drawings prove, it is refreshing to confront the shock of the visceral.

ANYONE WHO KNOWS THE MISCHIEVOUSLY eccentric artist John Wolseley would have received a disconcerting but pleasant shock walking into the 2016 Archibald Prize – for there he was, blaze of dishevelled silver hair perfectly askew and piercing blue eyes afire, clearly about to enunciate one of his theories of scientific naturalism. This was the result of a form of collaboration practised by that maestro of oil, Peter Wegner.
