EUAN MACLEOD:THE PAINTERLY PRINT MAKER

1981 IS A YEAR THAT PROFFERED its fair share of questionable choices. In some instances, the consequences were immediately calamitous, while for others the manifest problems were gradually revealed: Greece joined the EU; Diana Spencer married Prince Charles; and Australia’s diplomatic ties with New Zealand were nearly severed after Trevor Chappell bowled underarm at a one-day cricket match.

Yet, as a counter to the trend, it was also the year in which Euan Macleod arrived in Sydney. In the grand tradition of claiming as one of our own any Kiwi with a modicum of talent, this event proved to be a boon for the stocks painters when he decided to stay.
