    notable monoplane that flew during an era dominated by the biplane, the Fokker Eindecker made history during World War I as the first fighter to mount a successful synchronisation system that allowed the pilot to fire a machine gun forward through the spinning propeller. Both the aircraft and the synchronisation system were developed by Dutch aircraft designer Anthony Fokker, who worked with the German military aviation establishment from 1911 and throughout the years of World War I.
