In Memoriam: Dan Gurney 1931-2018

American racing legend Daniel Sexton “Dan” Gurney died on January 14 from complications of pneumonia. He was 86. The former Formula 1, Le Mans, IndyCar, NASCAR, and CanAm driver leaves a legacy of race wins and world championships, including the distinction of building and driving the only American car ever to win a Formula 1 race. He is likewise credited with inventing the Gurney flap and establishing the tradition of spraying Champagne on the winner’s podium. His company, All-American Racers, continues today as an engineering design and fabrication firm.
