‘Modern-style reportage didn’t catch on until 15-20 years after this picture’
George Grantham Bain ran one of the earliest news agencies in the USA, and in 1948 he sold his collection to the Library of Congress. Most of the pictures are staggeringly dull portraits of long-forgotten worthies, though to be fair, what Washington Carver looked like.
