SHARPENING is a software process that makes an image look crisper and more defined. It can’t be used to pull a soft or blurred picture into sharp focus, but it’s superb for enhancing the apparent detail in a shot. It does this by increasing the contrast on hard edges in the picture: if the edges are sharper and more defined, the rest of the image falls into line.
