Y When did you get the photography bug?

All my family are artistic, and I wanted to be an illustrator originally. I got interested in photography when I started borrowing my dad’s Olympus OM-10 and Olympus Trip when I was 14 or 15. After school, I went to art college and did a foundation course. While doing that, I played around with photography and realised I could get as much creative input into a photo as I could with my illustrations. So I progressively moved more towards working with the camera.

Did you take a course in photography after that?

I applied to do photography courses at different colleges. They all turned me down, so I went travelling for a year with my girlfriend.

When I came back, I got a place through clearing on a photography degree course at Kent Institute of Art & Design in Maidstone. My course was quite arty and not practical in the slightest. Out of the 36 students in my class, I think I’m the only one who has pursued a full-time career as
