Chapter 1: The Stage of Betrayal

Adrian Lu stood in front of the lift platform, making his final preparations before going on stage.

Mr. Lu, the makeup artist shouted, her voice sharp as she called out to him, Look this way!

Adrian Lu lowered his head, feeling a soft brush quickly sweep across his face. He didn’t know what she was applying, but his nose itched slightly, and he furrowed his brows.

The stage lights are bright, so some minor touch-ups are necessary, the young woman said, quickly tucking the brush into her pocket, admiring her work with a smile. Perfect! Don’t worry, boss, tonight you’ll definitely look more glamorous than any movie star!

Adrian Lu smiled lightly, straightening up, but he didn’t take her compliment seriously.

Around the stage, eight large LED screens were playing the company’s latest promotional video. The deep beats of the music mixed with the murmurs of the crowd backstage, making the already noisy environment even more chaotic.

Mr. Lu, it’s your turn to go on stage, the director's voice crackled in Adrian Lu’s earpiece. Three, two, one, go!

The audience erupted into thunderous applause. Adrian Lu stepped onto the stage, following the beam of light that landed at his feet.

At the 80,000-seat stadium, a car launch event was taking place. Nowadays, the cars from various companies all looked the same, so the real spectacle was in how the events were designed. This launch was no exception, and it resembled more of a concert than a car unveiling.

Celebrities performed dances and sang songs, quickly ramping up the excitement, and finally, the brand’s founder and CEO, Adrian Lu, appeared, ready to introduce the new car model.

The scale of the event was grand, and naturally, it was being live-streamed on various online platforms. In an office far away, Kevin Shi, watching the live broadcast of Adrian Lu, was fuming.

That bastard Adrian Lu, shameless as always, Kevin Shi cursed angrily. Why make it into a show like this? He’s got to be mocking us!

Unfortunately, Kevin Shi’s anger had no impact on the stadium, where Adrian Lu remained poised as he introduced the new model.

Though he spoke with ease, Adrian Lu subtly compared their car to other brands’ similar models, discussing everything from product concepts to exterior design, and even touching on the technical aspects, all while implying that their product was far superior.

Although he didn’t name names, anyone with ears could tell that he was taking a swipe at another brand.

Vanguard Motors isn’t new to this, said Soren Wei, as he sat in his office, glancing at his phone while his cup of instant noodles steamed. The noodles weren’t yet soaked, so he closed his laptop, only to hear Kevin Shi ranting on.

They don’t know how to sell cars without dragging us into it, Soren Wei continued calmly, not paying much attention.

The online battle had already begun due to Adrian Lu’s remarks, with the internet buzzing with insults. In no time, the event’s popularity was rising sharply.

Not this again, Soren Wei muttered. Let’s just call the legal team and have them work overtime. That Adrian Lu is going to have to pay for this.

Kevin Shi was clearly upset, but Soren Wei didn’t seem bothered, sipping his soup as if nothing unusual was happening.

A month earlier, the car from Vanguard Motors had been involved in an accident, and Soren Wei had already handled the situation with some financial compensation, ensuring the story stayed on their terms.

This isn’t worth our time, Soren Wei continued, sipping from his bowl. We can deal with it with public relations later. As for the competition, let’s just ignore them.

Soren Wei’s calm demeanor contrasted with Kevin Shi’s anger.

The next few days were filled with media frenzy and competitive moves, but for the most part, Soren Wei remained focused on his business, while Adrian Lu continued to make headlines for his bold moves in the car industry.

Chapter 2: What Do You Mean by This?

Adrian Lu was not alone. He was accompanied by a few well-dressed men and women, clearly from his company, and it seemed like they had another event to attend at the same hotel.

From a few steps away, two groups ran into each other, like a narrow alley where enemies meet.

The luxury cars, paired with fashionable beauties, created a stunning scene that caught the attention of many passersby. Sheng Tianming, who had been simmering with dissatisfaction with Vanguard Motors lately, found this high-profile appearance particularly aggravating.

I knew it! I saw those damn frogs parked here from a distance. Kevin Shi sneered, his tone dripping with sarcasm. So it’s the hotshot Vanguard Motors making waves again. To be honest, the design of their cars... tsk, really something else.

Kevin, stop. Don’t provoke them, Soren Wei said calmly, but there was a subtle edge to his voice. Let’s leave them to their theatrics.

But before Kevin could continue, a tall woman, nearly 1.8 meters, stepped out of the crowd. Her steps were graceful, and she exuded a commanding presence.

She was Qin Qing, the vice president and co-founder of Vanguard Motors, and everyone recognized her.

Design is subjective. It depends on one’s taste and how sophisticated their judgment is, Qin Qing said, smiling at Kevin Shi, who had been mocking them. But there are facts we can’t ignore, like our car’s 0-100 km/h time of 6.9 seconds. That’s hardly something to brag about.

Kevin Shi was not one to back down. Well, unlike you, we at Cloud Map prioritize safety. Not everything is about speed.

Safety? Qin Qing let out a laugh, her eyes gleaming with amusement. I’ve heard rumors about your autonomous driving systems failing. That’s quite a joke, don’t you think?

The battle of words was escalating, but neither side was backing off.

Let’s leave it at that, Soren Wei interjected, his tone disinterested as he observed the exchange. Let the competition fight their battles. We have our own priorities.

Kevin Shi was about to say something more, but Soren Wei waved him off, signaling it was time to leave.

However, as they were about to move, Adrian Lu, who had remained silent up until this point, spoke up. It seems like fate brought us together, Mr. Wei.

Soren Wei turned toward Adrian Lu, who was now standing with a calm expression, his eyes fixed on him.

Adrian Lu’s voice was smooth and composed as he continued, Since we’re meeting, why don’t you try our new model? I’d be honored to have your opinion on it.

The invitation was polite, but to Kevin Shi, it seemed like an open challenge.

The two companies had already burned bridges, and now it was clear they were in no mood to maintain any pretense of politeness.

Kevin Shi snapped, What do you think? That we’ll just get in your lousy car without question?

Adrian Lu ignored his provocations, his gaze fixed on Soren Wei as if nothing had happened.

Soren Wei, despite his earlier reluctance, finally responded, Alright. Since you’re offering, I suppose I can give it a try.

Great, Adrian Lu said, his smile showing no sign of discomfort. Let’s head over and take a look.

Soren Wei didn’t say much more, signaling to his team to follow him as he walked toward the car. It wasn’t just a test drive; it was another round in their ongoing rivalry.

    Chapter 3: True or False?

Soren Wei couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed. As he sat in the passenger seat, the quiet hum of the car filled the air, and yet, he couldn’t stop his mind from racing.

Adrian Lu, seated behind the wheel, was focused on the road ahead, his eyes calm and sharp, giving nothing away. It was almost as if he had no intention of engaging in small talk.

Soren Wei, feeling the tension in the air, broke the silence. I never thought I'd be sitting in one of your cars, let alone test-driving it.

Adrian Lu gave him a brief glance, a flicker of amusement in his eyes. Sometimes, things don’t go as expected.

Soren Wei leaned back, his fingers tapping against the seat rest. The car accelerated smoothly, reaching a high speed without even a hint of strain.
