Humility Can Rest Your Soul - May Kawaala

    PREFACE

The words within this book were not written from a place of ease or abundance, but from seasons of brokenness, prayer, and deep reflection. Humility Can Rest Your Soul was born out of life experiences that taught me—sometimes painfully—that the way up in God’s kingdom is always down. True peace is not found in having everything, but in surrendering everything.

Throughout my walk with Christ, I have learned that humility is not a posture of weakness but of strength—it is the gateway to grace, wisdom, and healing. In the stillness of humility, we hear God more clearly. In the quietness of surrender, we discover His rest. This book is an offering of the insights, revelations, and scriptures that have anchored my soul and restored my heart in times of weariness.

My hope is that this book becomes a companion to anyone seeking clarity in confusion, peace in the storm, or purpose in pain. It is for those who long to live differently—to love deeper, to serve with grace, and to walk in the gentleness of Christ.

As you turn each page, I pray you are drawn closer to the One who is humble and lowly in heart, the One who said, Come to me... and I will give you rest. May His peace settle deeply in your soul as you embrace the beauty of a humble life.

    In His rest,

    May Kawaala

    INTRODUCTION

Humility Can Rest Your Soul is more than a devotional study—it is a spiritual journey into the heart of one of the most essential Christian virtues. This book was birthed from personal trials, divine encounters, and a deep longing for rest in a weary world. In the life of Jesus, we find not only the perfect example of humility but also the path to lasting peace and joy.

Through meditations on Scripture, real-life lessons, and honest reflections, this work seeks to unpack what it truly means to walk humbly with God. Humility is not about denying our worth but about recognizing the greatness of God and placing our trust in His timing, His Word, and His will. It shapes how we love, forgive, serve, and respond to suffering.

In these pages, you will be challenged to unlearn the patterns of pride and self-reliance and to embrace the gentle yoke of Christ. For those who are weary and burdened, humility offers rest for the soul—a rest the world cannot give. Let this book be a guide toward that sacred rest.

    CHAPTER 1

    HUMILITY AS A KEY TOOL

    IN CHRISTIAN LIFE

In the world we live in, we often feel rejected, uncared for, and unloved. Even when we possess enough to be considered blessed, envy and jealousy from others can lead to mistreatment. Amidst these circumstances, we are called to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ. The Bible reminds us that He was a humble servant, sent by God the Father to fulfill a divine mission on earth. Jesus Himself said: Matthew 11:29: Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Humility was a defining characteristic of Jesus during His time on earth, enabling Him to accomplish the purpose entrusted to Him. In this verse, Jesus testifies of His own gentleness and humility of heart—a profound statement when deeply considered. Yet, have you ever encountered an easy yoke? A yoke implies a burden, something challenging to bear. Despite this, Jesus assures us that His yoke is different. Life, even when seemingly good, does not exempt us from problems. Burdens will come, enemies will persist, and challenges will arise.

The Pharisees of Jesus’ time symbolize the adversaries we still encounter today—hypocrites and betrayers who envy and plot against us. King David experienced similar struggles, as he lamented:

    • Psalm 3:1: O Lord, how my adversaries have increased! Many are rising up against me.

    • Psalm 56:2: My foes have trampled upon me all day long, for they are many who fight proudly against me.

    • Psalm 69:4: Those who hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head; those who would destroy me are powerful, being wrongfully my enemies; what I did not steal, I then have to restore.

David’s words reveal that our enemies can often be those closest to us. Jesus echoed this truth, warning that adversaries might come from within our own households:

    • Matthew 10:36: And a person’s enemies will be those of his own household.

    • Micah 7:6: For the son treats the father with contempt, the daughter rises up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man’s enemies are the members of his own household.

In light of this, we need a spirit of discernment to navigate and overcome the trials of life. The Bible emphasizes the importance of wisdom and insight in understanding the situations we face:

    • 1 John 2:27: As for you, the anointing you received from Him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as His anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in Him.

    • 1 John 4:1: Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.

King Solomon, in his humility, asked God for a discerning heart to govern His people:

1 Kings 3:9: So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?

Discernment empowers us to distinguish between right and wrong and reveals the true intentions of those around us. Despite the challenges Jesus faced—including opposition from the Pharisees and disbelief from many—He remained humble and gentle. He never sought to exalt Himself but instead focused on loving people and fulfilling the will of the Father.

This teaches us that humility and gentleness attract others. People are drawn to those who are peaceful at heart, as they bring a sense of calm and comfort. The apostle Peter encourages us to pursue such peace: 1 Peter 3:10-11: For whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech. They must turn from evil and do good; they must seek peace and pursue it.

In conclusion, humility is an essential tool in the Christian life. It reflects the character of Jesus and enables us to navigate the challenges of life with grace, wisdom, and love. Through humility, we find rest for our souls and become a source of peace for those around us.

    HUMILITY AND GOD’S WORD

These teachings impart a profound lesson about life—one centered on the virtue of humility, which brings true victory. Joy and happiness do not necessarily come from having everything you desire. Often, life places us in challenging situations: some may face physical or spiritual imprisonment, others may struggle in difficult environments or endure trying moments. Yet, in such places, when you understand God and acknowledge Him as the Lord of your life, humbling yourself before Him and trusting Him wholeheartedly, you can experience a joy that surpasses anything material possessions can provide.

Proverbs 22:4 says, The reward of humility and the fear of the Lord are riches, honor, and life.

    Matthew 5:5 declares, "Blessed
