Connor Whiteley

Binary Systems - Connor Whiteley
INVASION OF THE GENE LABS
Science Director Adam Fisher hated that today was the day his life would be changed in more ways than one. He would gain freedom from his ideas and he would learn the true horror of the galaxy.
He sat on his massive black, fabric director chair that his first-ever boyfriend had bought him over three years ago. It was a shame that the sweet young man was now dead, died on a forgettable planet winning in a battle that didn’t matter now, but that was the way the Empire worked.
Adam had always liked how the black fabric chair had all the right support in all the right places, so much so that it felt like he was sitting on a cloud most of the time. Or like he was actually having a supportive hug for the first time in years, he really, really liked that supportive, loving feeling.
His blue holographic computer was activated in front of him and Adam had given up trying to look at all the streams upon streams of genetic information that was being shown to him. He understood it all but there was simply too much data for him to enjoy.
He turned off the computer and simply enjoyed the sheer silence of his massive oval office. He smiled to himself because no one else had ever liked his office, even his past boyfriends had said they hated the black walls, the white marble floor with purple veining running through it and even the endless holographic bookshelves scared them a little.
Adam wasn’t exactly sure why but he liked it. This was his science lair, where he could create and tinker with grand genetic ideas and he could be transformed into the mad scientist he had always wanted ever since he was a kid.
The ceiling had to be his favourite part of the office. Adam had loved hand painting each little star on the black ceiling so it looked like he was outside. He supposed he could have easily brought himself a holo-projector to make an extremely realistic starry sky on the ceiling, but he liked doing things with his hands.
The sweet aromas of caramel, grapefruit and freshly roasted pecans filled the air, making the grand taste of pecan pie form on his tongue. He really liked it but the slight hint of smokey and charred flesh in the air reminded Adam of what was happening outside.
There was an invasion happening.
Adam shook his head as he reactivated his entire holographic computer and he double-checked what was happening. It seemed there were five small blade-like warships entering orbit of their moon base.
Adam had learnt a lot over the years from past boyfriends about the superhuman traitors and their baseline human slaves. He recognised these ships as belonging to the Divine Children, their evil black paint made that clear as day.
They weren’t fighting just yet but it was only a matter of time.
Adam knew the loyalists on the immense blue, green and red planet below would send reinforcements in time but by the time they were here the entire moon could be annihilated.
He shook his head at the idea. This was all covered in basic training and the new security memo that came out last week.
The traitors might have recovered the technology to forge brand-new superhumans in recent weeks but they were still learning. And they wanted more data, more resources and more everything.
They wouldn’t annihilate the lab until they had secured what they came for. It really was that simple.
Adam contacted the base’s head of security. A moment later Anna appeared in blue holographic form in front of him, she was already in her full heavy armour and carrying a sniper rifle in one hand and a missile launcher in another.
She had always been one tough woman.
Anna,
Adam said, we have to buy as much time as possible so reinforcements can arrive. Concentrate on delaying tactics and protect the DNA samples and the labs at all cost,
Confirmed,
Anna said clearly on the move. What about Arcangel?
Adam grinned. He had almost forgotten about his prized pet project that had been gifted to him by none other than Doctrine Catherine Taylor herself, the woman who created the superhuman Angels of Death and Hope. Also known as the Mother of Angels.
Leave him to me,
Adam said. I can deal with him just buy me time,
"if anyone can
