Preface
The newborn stage of life is undoubtedly one of the most vulnerable and innocent times in a person’s life. You were born and now things are happening to you by people that you cannot see and voices that you have never heard. Babies are some of the most trusting beings, whether they want to or not. They depend solely on us to hold, feed, and care for them in every way. What other choice do they have?
Well, that’s where we, as parents, come in. We have the choice to do what is best for our babies. As first-time parents who have no experience with babies, have never had a baby, and so many people around you are telling you what is best for YOUR baby, how do we know what’s best? This space of the unknown brings about a sense of vulnerability for you as well. At birth, we are handed this baby that we only know from the images on the ultrasound, movements in your womb, or hearing its heartbeat. Now you have to care for them for the rest of your life.

There is no rule book to parenting; however, there are some things that you should know about as a parent relating to your child’s health and well-being. This book is going to give insight from the perspective of a mother who is a professional registered nurse with experience in maternal/newborn health. Let’s turn your I didn’t think of that
into Yes, that has been taken care of.
Before we get down to it, let’s lay a little foundation, shall we?
Having a baby is one of the most precious gifts and life-changing occasions in a person’s life. As a mother/baby nurse, my mission was to set new families on a firm foundation as they embarked on this journey called parenthood. My passion was to do whatever was in
