About this ebook

Mariana no longer flinches at the shadows. She’s learned to live among them, to live with me. Her innocence has frayed, twisted by the dark world I’ve pulled her into, where danger is constant, and loyalty is lethal. She’s no longer just the sweet bookshop owner—I’ve watched her change, watched her sharpen, as she clings to me even as my enemies draw closer.

The threats are no longer whispers in the dark; they’re real, close enough to taste, and they all want her blood for daring to be mine. My life has painted her hands with the same darkness, and now she faces a choice: stay beside me and risk everything, or break away from a world that’s become her prison. She knows too much, and in my world, there is no forgiveness for that.

This isn’t just love; it’s survival, a deadly bond between us that tightens with every threat, every brush with death. As my enemies close in, as her heart turns darker, she must decide—does she stay, or will the dangers finally tear us apart?

    MARIANA

As I followed Amir deeper into the house, my heart pounded harder with every step.

My breath felt shallow, almost like I couldn’t catch it.

Everything about this moment felt surreal—the quiet of the house, the intensity of Amir’s presence, the way the world outside seemed so far away.

He didn’t say anything as he led me down a hallway that seemed to stretch on forever.

I kept my eyes on his back, watching how his shoulders moved with each step.

His grip on my hand was firm, but not painful.

He was in control, and I was following.

Part of me wanted to stop, to turn around and run back to my car.

I didn’t know what was waiting for me in this house, or why I was even here.

But a bigger part of me was curious.

I wanted to know what Amir had to show me, what he saw in me that I couldn’t see in myself.

We finally reached the end of the hallway, and he stopped in front of a closed door.

He turned to me, his dark eyes meeting mine, searching for something.

I didn’t know what he was looking for, but I held his gaze, waiting.

This is where it all begins, he said softly, his voice like a low hum. Once you step through this door, everything changes.

I swallowed hard, my hand trembling slightly in his.

    What’s behind it?

He smiled, that knowing smile I was starting to recognize.

    Your freedom.

The way he said it made my skin tingle.

    Freedom.

The word hung in the air between us, heavy and full of meaning I didn’t fully understand yet.

But I nodded, my curiosity outweighing my fear.

Amir turned the handle and pushed the door open.

Inside, the room was dimly lit, the glow of candles flickering softly against the walls.

It was elegant, like the rest of the house—dark wood floors, plush furniture, and soft fabrics draped over everything.

    But there was something else.

A tension in the air, something thick and unspoken.

In the center of the room was a single chair, facing a tall mirror on the far wall.

Amir gestured for me to sit, and after a moment of hesitation, I did.

I could feel his eyes on me as I sat down, the weight of his presence behind me.

The mirror reflected my image back at me, and for the first time, I saw the woman Amir kept talking about.

    The one who was hiding.

The one who was afraid to face the truth about herself.

You’ve been living a lie, Amir said quietly, his voice close to my ear now.

I could feel his breath on the back of my neck, sending a shiver down my spine.

You’ve spent your whole life pretending to be something you’re not.

I stared at my reflection, trying to understand what he meant.

    The woman
