PART I
Blood Type and Diabetes: A Basic Primer
ONE
The Dynamics of Diabetes
THE BLOOD TYPE DIET MAY OFFER THE MOST EFFECTIVE approach yet in controlling the epidemic of diabetes. Although the numbers of those afflicted have been on the rise in recent years, 90 percent of all diabetes is preventable by eating the right diet and exercising appropriately. Furthermore, new research by the National Institutes of Health shows that even people who have an exceptionally high genetic propensity to develop diabetes can reduce their risk by almost 60 percent through diet and lifestyle adjustments. Imagine that. We have the power to virtually eliminate the damaging effects of diabetes by making simple changes in the way we eat and live.
The progression to full-fledged diabetes usually occurs over time, so the Blood Type Diet can have a dramatic preventive influence. If you are reading this book, you may already have diabetes, but it is more likely that you are pre-diabetic and want to stop the progression of the disease in its tracks. In a pre-diabetic stage, you’re probably overweight, and you may experience the symptoms of blood sugar irregularity. A blood test may show higher than normal levels of blood glucose—a sign of impending or prolonged hyperglycemia. If you remain in this state of prolonged hyperglycemia, diabetes is inevitable.
That’s where the Blood Type Diet comes in. Extensive research and clinical testing has shown conclusively that when you adhere to a diet that maximizes your utilization of food, you can reverse the slide into full-fledged diabetes. The Blood Type Diet is the only individualized approach to diabetes prevention and management currently available. Unlike other diet plans, which propose one plan to fit everyone, the Blood Type Diet addresses the critical genetic differences, which influence the way your body metabolizes
