The Reflection's Revenge - Olivia Reed

    Chapter 1

    Reflection’s Whisper

Olivia Reed stood before the antique mirror, her emerald eyes fixated on the reflection that stared back at her. The dim light of her cramped studio apartment cast an eerie glow on the ornate frame, and for a moment, Olivia could have sworn that her reflection had shifted ever so slightly as if it were alive.

She shook her head, dismissing the thought as a trick of the light. The long hours she’d been putting into her latest painting must have been taking their toll on her mind. Olivia turned away from the mirror, her gaze settling on the unfinished canvas that dominated the center of the room.

The painting was a portrait of a woman, her features obscured by a shimmering, fractured surface that seemed to splinter and distort her image. It reflected Olivia’s own inner turmoil, a manifestation of the doubts and fears that plagued her every waking moment.

As a struggling artist in a city that devoured dreams, Olivia had grown accustomed to the constant rejection and disappointment that came with pursuing her passion. Yet, with each passing day, the weight of her failures seemed to grow heavier, threatening to crush her spirit entirely.

Olivia sighed, running a hand through her chestnut hair. She glanced at the clock on the wall, its hands inching towards midnight. Another day had slipped away, and she was no closer to finishing her painting or making a name for herself in the unforgiving art world.

Just as she was about to turn away from the mirror once more, a flicker of movement caught her eye. Olivia froze, her heart pounding in her chest as she watched her reflection’s lips curve into a smile that was not her own.

Hello, Olivia, her reflection whispered, its voice a chilling echo of her own.

Olivia stumbled backward, her mind reeling with disbelief. This couldn’t be happening. Reflections didn’t talk, and they certainly didn’t smile of their own accord.

Who... who are you? Olivia stammered, her voice trembling with fear.

Her reflection’s smile widened a glint of malice in its eyes. I’m you, Olivia. Or rather, I’m the part of you that you’ve been trying so desperately to hide.

Olivia shook her head, trying to clear the fog of confusion that clouded her thoughts. I don’t understand. How is this possible?

Her reflection laughed—a cold, mirthless sound that sent shivers down Olivia’s spine. Oh, Olivia. There’s so much you don’t know about the world, about yourself. The mirror is a portal, a gateway to a parallel reality where everything is a twisted reflection of what you know.

Olivia’s mind raced, trying to make sense of the impossible situation she found herself in. A parallel reality? But why are you talking to me? What do you want?

Her reflection’s eyes narrowed, its voice dropping to a sinister whisper. I want to be free, Olivia. I want to escape this mirror world and take your place in the real world. And you’re going to help me do it.

Olivia recoiled, her heart hammering in her chest. No. No, I won’t help you. This is insane. You’re not real.

Her reflection’s laughter echoed through the apartment, a sound that chilled Olivia to the bone. Oh, I’m very real, Olivia. And I will not stop until I get what I want. You can’t escape me. I’m a part of you, whether you like it.

With those words, Olivia’s reflection changed, its features morphing and twisting until it no longer resembled her at all. In its place stood a woman with raven hair and piercing, icy blue eyes. A woman who radiated danger and malevolence.

Who are you? Olivia whispered, her voice barely audible over the pounding of her own heart.

The woman in the mirror smiled, a predatory grin that sent a wave of terror washing over Olivia. I’m Olivia-M, your reflection from the mirror world. And I’m going to make your life a living hell until you give me what I want.

Olivia backed away from the mirror, her legs trembling beneath her. This couldn’t be happening. It had to be a dream, a nightmare conjured up by her exhausted mind.

But as Olivia-M’s laughter continued to echo through the apartment, growing louder and more maniacal with each passing second, Olivia knew that this was no dream. This was a living nightmare, one that she couldn’t escape from.

She turned and ran, her footsteps pounding against the hardwood floor as she fled the apartment, desperate to put as much distance between herself and the mirror as possible. But even as she raced down the darkened streets, Olivia could feel Olivia-M’s presence, lurking just beyond the veil of reality.

The mirror had awakened something inside her, a darkness that threatened to consume her entirely. And now, with Olivia-M’s whispers echoing in her mind, Olivia knew that her life would never be the same.

As she ran, Olivia’s thoughts raced, trying to make sense of the impossible events that had just transpired. How could mirrors be portals to other worlds? How could her own reflection come to life and speak to her?

But even as these questions swirled in her mind, Olivia knew she couldn’t dwell on them now. She had to stop Olivia-M, to prevent her from crossing over into the real world and wreaking havoc on everything she held dear.

Olivia’s lungs burned as she ran, her breath coming in ragged gasps. She did not know where she was going, only that she had to keep moving, had to put as much distance between herself and the mirror as possible.

But even as she ran, Olivia could feel Olivia-M’s presence, growing stronger with each passing moment.
