    Foreword

When Clare was growing up and going through the terrible teen years, I remember her playing David Bowie and Kate Bush constantly in her bedroom. Back when she’d first started secondary school, it had been ABBA.

I ran the family business and played tennis at weekends, so I was a bit of an ‘absent’ dad, I’m afraid to say.

Clare got into a lot of trouble in her teen years, but we have resolved our differences. I’m now very proud of how she turned her life around and started her own businesses.

I wish her lots of luck with this book.

They wanted to admit me to the unit (psychiatric ward), but I refused to go, as I’d been in it before with postnatal depression over twenty-seven years before. The crisis team couldn’t find a bed, so it was agreed that I’d have home treatment, which meant a visit from the team every day. I must admit, I’ve never had another episode as bad as that one. What triggered it was a work event where I found myself completely out of my comfort zone. The adrenaline rushed in and helped me throughout the day. I was wired up and hadn’t slept for several days leading up to the event.

I’d had a phone call completely out of the blue from a producer of a reality show who wanted
