About this ebook

Abi Anita Walker is a graduate of the University of Michigan Ann Arbor School of Nursing, a RN, mother of a non-verbal autistic son, openly expresses her fear concerning autism and vaccination. The unknown fear she had for many years. Abi walker, filled with fear or apprehension, tries to avoid insult upon injury, wondering what could happen if her autistic son gets the Covid-19 mRNA vaccine.

In this candid and emotional memoir, Abi Anita Walker offers timeless, thoughtful wisdom to yet to be mothers and fathers and tells a funny, thrilling and heartbreaking story of what to watch for against a child becoming autistic.

    Dedication

To God almighty for giving me the talent to write the book.

To my family who stood by me when the going was tough.

To all those mothers with fortitude, strong, who will not give

up the fight on what they witnessed and believe in.

To the love of my life, my children:

    Joann, Leonard and Michael.

    CHAPTER ONE

There is a city founded in 1824, a sweet and enjoyable small city. The city offers everything that you need in your day-to-day life. The city is full of restaurants. Shops, music venues, and fantastic schools, grocery stores and much more.

The city became a county in 1827 and incorporated by 1833. It has a consistently creative youthful vibe. It’s consistently named as one of the most livable places in America. This city is home to rivers. It is glutted with a lot of trees and has the largest peony garden in North America. The Huron River runs directly through the center of the city offering fisher men the opportunity to fish. If you want to have a city experience without losing a sight of nature, it is here. A city to go ice skating during the winter. The museum is one of the natural histories. A museum you can visit, no matter the season. The city celebrates life and culture with a wide array of world class events. There is art, theater, athletics, museums, academics, history and much more. This is a city without the urban hassles although balkanization is common. You can walk to most places in this city. The hands-on museum is one of the best children’s museums ever. This museum is large and airy. There is also museum of archaeology and the admission is free. It is grandiloquent and immensely embellished.

The county farm is great for toddlers and young kids, because it has a great play ground set at the entrance of the park to run, ride bikes, and play with farm animals. There are a lot for young and older people to do.

The city is packed with parts to view, the beautiful fall colors as well as orchard mills and corn mazes to get in the spirit of the brightly colored season. The home of the largest college football stadium in North America and most educated city in the world. In this city, on the 26th day of August 1990, an adorable healthy looking precious boy was born. The good size made me want to squeeze with joy.

His newborn babyface brightened my mood. His head full of brown hair made me happy. I knew his presence would fill the world with happiness, peace and wonderful moments. I wished the handsome young lad much love, heaps of blessing and an eternity of bliss. I really praised and thanked God: Dear Lord, thank you for the greatest gift given to me, thank you for life. I pray to you Lord to watch over him, save him from any harm and bless him through life trials. God, I ask you to protect his little life according to the scriptures. Then our mouth was filled with laughter and our tongue with singing. I went further to assure the little baby boy that I will always be in one of three places of his life; In the front to cheer him on, behind him to have his back, and in the back for him to know he is never alone.

Before my son Leonard a.k.a. Fola was born there was no pregnancy complication, prenatal care was fully attended, at St. Joseph hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Prenatal care is the health care you receive while pregnant. Regular prenatal care through your pregnancy help to elucidate potential concerns early and reduces the risk of complications of pregnancy and parturition. A healthy pregnancy is one of the best ways to promote a healthy childbirth. There was also no complication of parturition. A childbirth complication refers to any abnormal obstetrical condition of adverse event occurring during pregnancy, labor or delivery that can adversely impact a mother. There are many types of birth complications. For example: uterine rupture; if this happens the baby will be under immediate threat of oxygen deprivation which causes major brain damage or death of the fetus. Shoulder dystocia is where the baby’s shoulder becomes stuck while entering the birth canal, usually on the mother’s pelvic bone. This may cause specific birth injury called Erb’s palsy. In addition, umbilical cord prolapses, fetal macrosomia, are also common problems. Macrosomia, means that the baby’s head is too big to pass through the pelvis safely which impedes vaginal delivery. Meanwhile, thank God there were none of those complications when my son was born. My son’s Apgar score was also very perfect. It was a ten which is the maximum in five minutes. Apgar is an acronym standing for appearance, pulse (heart rate), grimace (reflexes) activity (muscle tone) and respiration. I was very happy because of the perfect score. Researchers have attributed low Apgar score with higher risk for developing several neurological, psychological, and psychiatric disorders.

My son was breastfed one hour after giving birth. It was small breast milk called colostrum. My son, Leonard a.k.a. Fola, was awake and alert. Vital signs were taken periodically. He went through a lot of newborn screening. This involved heels prick blood draw. This will detect many disorders for example, phenylketonuria (PKU). PKU was ruled out. Hepatitis B vaccination was also given at the hospital as well as Vitamin K injection. The Vitamin K injection helps the blood clot properly and also prevents serious bleeding disorders. At this point a hearing screen was done, and there were no hearing problems detected. It was safe, quick and painless. It was good to know that he has no hearing problems because these tiny ears are also the doorways to the brain, that open up a new world of learning and growing for our children. The hearing screening procedure was a non-invasive process. This test is called automated auditory brain stem response, music tone was played through soft earphone into the baby’s ears, three electrodes were placed on the baby’s head to measure the hearing nerve and brain response. This procedure was done in less than 10 minutes, and everything went well, meaning all was well.

We left for home after day of delivery. In the second week after my son’s birth, it seemed that he wasn’t doing much of anything besides eating, sleeping and pooping. However, he seemed to be watching his surroundings too. My son circumcised site healed nicely at approximately seven days. The umbilical cord had no infection. We made sure that the umbilical cord was clean, no soap used, just clean with water, and dry with a towel. We also made sure that we did not cover the umbilical cord stump. This allows more air circulation, less rubbing to heal quicker. At three weeks old, my son was spitting up a lot. I was told not to worry, that is normal for newborns. The reason is that the immature sphincter between the esophagus and stomach allows food to back up and because excess mucus, and saliva needs to be cleared in a newborn. I was advised to keep the baby burping and feed him sitting upright. Breast feeding does not contain enough vitamin D. Low vitamin D is a risk of having weak bones in which most people call rickets.

Rickets is the softening and weakening of bones in children usually because of an extreme and prolonged vitamin D deficiency. Vitamin D helps children’s body to absorb calcium and phosphorus from food. We gave 400 IU/day of vitamin supplements.

Moving on in age at one month to four months, Fola was just eating and sleeping. At this point, my son would smile and look around his surroundings. We were always picture perfect with doctor’s appointments and baby checkups. He got some vaccination between the ages of two months to seven months, the IPV vaccine, this is the polio vaccine, and this is to protect the baby against polio disease. Polio disease has caused millions of children to become paralyzed. He also received the Hepatitis A vaccine. This was done at almost a year of his birth. We like to travel abroad and want to take all the necessary vaccines to prevent diseases because Hepatitis A is very contagious and it affects the liver. Liver infection is also common in many parts of the world. Hepatitis A, B, and C virus can last for few weeks or at least for years. It may also lead to liver failure.

As the month rolled by, it’s now time to eat solid foods. He likes mash potatoes with okra-based gravy. Okra has a lot of nutritious health benefits. Okra is rich in magnesium, folate, and fiber. It also contains antioxidants and Vitamin A. He loved the okra soup very much; it looks very yummy especially the way his grandma makes it, it is mouthwatering. He will finish it and want to tell us he can use a little more. Meanwhile, my son is engaging in much more activities now. He wiggles and kicks more, raises his head while lying face down. He grasps his sister’s fingers and wants to put things in his mouth. When the sister plays with a teddy bear, he turns his head to follow the action. He also recognizes familiar faces. He loves when his sister feeds him with bottle of water. The sister plays a game called the doctor. She uses her teddy bear, and uses a stethoscope to listen to the heart and sings a song. My son will start smiling whenever he hears the song:

Baby, baby listen Baby, baby listen to the heart of a frog

He also smiles a lot when his father is trying to play with him, and called him Dada.

My son loved to cuddle and
