- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Lots of cheating and lying going on in this book, although there are so many cross-accusations that it becomes confusing as to who is cheating on whom and who is lying or telling the truth. I wish I had counted the number of times a character asked another character "are you OK?" or "is everything all right?" - it must have been at least 40, no exaggeration. There was way too much sharing by Rachel of her innermost thoughts, which became quite repetitive and annoying. I found the over-the-top ending ridiculous. I would say this is one of Sandie Jones' weaker books.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5I couldn't get past page 55, I kept wondering why I was reading this domestic drama when I didn't like the story or the people very much. Uff, life is too short!
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5So I selected this audio book to listen to because it sounded like an interesting mystery thriller and unfortunately the closest thing resembling that only happens in the last 45 minutes of the audio book.
Three couples go to Portugal for for a destination wedding for one of them. Once they get there things start coming out about this person has been cheating on this person and this other person cheated on that person, and that unfortunately is what 90% of the book was about.
I think the book might have been a bit more interesting if what happened at the end happened at the beginning instead and then we learn how we got to that point. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5These three couples travel to Portugal for a destination wedding for Ali and Will. Five of these friends have known each other for quite a while. Ali is the newcomer. But, as time goes on, secrets about Ali start to surface. This leads to other secrets, and more secrets…until! This story has a good many characters. It might have been different for me if I had read and not listened to it. But, I had some issues at the first keeping up with everyone. I will be honest…I almost put it aside a time or two. I am glad I finished it. The ending was not exactly what I expected. This story does move a little slow in places and tends to get bogged down in stuff that is not really relevant. However, I did enjoy the intensity of all the secrets, especially the who, what, when and where?! Definitely kept me guessing!I received this audiobook from the publisher for a honest review.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/53.5 stars rounded up to 4! Destination wedding … good friends, beautiful setting, you’ll have fun they said, what could go wrong? Married couples Rachel & Jack and Noah & Paige are traveling with the groom, Will (Jack’s brother) and Ali (bride) to Portugal. The couples have been friends forever, since university/marriage. A lot of history between these 4. Ali is semi new to the group and doesn’t seem to fit in. You always have that one friend who rubs you the wrong way, and you are not sure of their motives. That’s Ali! Preconceived notions will be tested with a shocking outcome. This is a combination ChickLit/Thriller. I recommend this book for a vacation read, easy to pick up and put down, but it will hold your attention. Story seemed to drag a little in parts, but the last quarter of the book is fast moving. I enjoyed the writing and the of the dynamics between the couples and the friends. Loved the character development! Enjoyable drama played out. I look forward to this author’s next book! Thanks to Ms. Jones, St. Martin’s Press and Minotaur Books and NetGalley for this ARC. Opinion is mine alone.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Thanks to NetGalley for an audiobook copy of The Guilt Trip. This is an easy read, I was able to listen to the entire novel in one setting. The narrator did a great job voicing the characters and bringing the dialogue to life. I have enjoyed Sandie Jones’s previous novels, but I felt that this book fell short for me. One character was set up to be a fall guy from the beginning, so I knew immediately that the storyline about that was a misdirection attempt. It was too blatant. Then the crash scene-quite a bit out there. But, the last chapter, as in all her books, leaves you with a jaw dropping reaction.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The Guilt Trip is a slow to start novel with all the pieces coming together in the last few chapters. There is a destination wedding where friends and family fly to Portugal. Rachel and Mark are a married couple as are Paige and Noah. They are flying to Portugal with Ali, Mark's future sister-in-law. Ali seems like a gorgeous ditz and Mark has concerns about her marrying his brother. The secrets between friends are refered to and there is much back and forth over what they want to share with one another. Lots of miscommunication and it reminded me of a television show where everyone misunderstood one another. Jealousy, betrayal and murder are the themes. While I didn't love ths book it wouldn't stop me from trying another by this author. I just felt it could have been shorter and some "issues" were rehashed more than they ought to have been. In my opinion.Publication date August 3, 2021 by St Martin's Press. Genre: Women's Fiction, Mystery and Thrillers.Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy of this book. I was not compensated for the review, all opinions are mine.
