Carl East was born in 1956, in the City of Hull (officially Kingston upon Hull), in Northeast England. He began his writing career after turning 40, beginning with imaginative tales and then moving onto short stories. In the years that followed, he improved his writing skills with the help of other writers and online authors who gave of their time and skills, to offer advice and constructive criticism.  His vivid imagination took off as his writing explored the various genres of Science Fiction, Horror and Romance. He attained his greatest success while writing Erotic Fiction as he weaved stories of lusty encounters with distinctively entertaining characters to tickle the fancy of the growing fans of Erotica.  The years of heading out the door to a factory, manufacturing, or service job is now a thing of the past. Instead, he spends his time in a pleasantly chaotic home office, legs stretched out as he ponders his next story. With a steaming hot cup of tea and snacks by his side, the keyboard silently awaits, for the next “Ah Ha Moment” when another story begins.

The Sight - Parts 1 to 3 - Carl East

    The Sight

Rachael was a cute young woman and full of life. She wanted to go everywhere and do everything. However, things were about to change for Rachael, in ways she couldn’t possibly imagine. On her eighteenth birthday she was forced to perform a ritual that her mother told her was a tradition handed down from generations of her family. She was also going to learn that her mother belonged to a coven and that made her a witch. This information was both exciting and scary at the same time, especially when she also learned how many other witches were in the family. Her very first question upon finding out about all of this, was why she hadn’t been told until now. Her mother responded to that one.

Rachael, being a witch is taken very seriously in the coven, so, it’s been decreed that only those that have come of age should be informed and brought into the fold, as it were. You are now of age, and the ritual you have just performed, will tell us whether or not you have the gift needed to join us, said Rachael’s mother.

Um... what kind of gift? enquired Rachael.

The gift can take many forms. You could get the gift of healing, or the gift of memory. You could even get the gift of sight, but let’s not place our hopes too high, shall we? replied her mother knowingly.

When will I know if I’ve been given a gift?

    Oh, you’ll know, believe me.

After that, Rachael didn’t ask any more questions. To be honest, she was having difficulty believing any of it, but she didn’t want to tell her mother that. Her feeling was, if her mother wants to believe that she’s a genuine witch, then why should she spoil things for her. The birthday party went well after that, and Rachael went to bed a very happy young woman.

In the morning, she felt raring to go as usual. It was to be her last day at school, and college was only a few weeks away. She rushed around as she normally did, trying to pack too much into one day, and after kissing her mother on the cheek and telling her that she loved her, she left to catch the school bus. The ride to school was uneventful but this was probably going to be the strangest day of her young life. It started when she was getting off the bus, she saw her close friend Beth and was just about to shout out her name when she spotted someone else.

Coming toward her friend was a tall young man, with a very pale complexion. There was nothing wrong with that, except that this young man had white hair and literally pointed ears. Rachael couldn’t help staring at him as she walked over to join them. He was simply the most attractive guy she’d ever seen, and then suddenly the resemblance of a friend of theirs, known as Mike, became clear. As Rachael approached them, she could see that it was indeed Mike, the only problem is, Mike didn’t have pointed ears or white hair. At least, not normally.

Hi guys, said Rachael, when she was near enough.

She couldn’t seem to stop staring at Mike as they turned to greet her for the last day of school. Mike noticed the intense stare Rachael was giving him right away, but he didn’t say anything. Rachael was thinking perhaps he was dressed up for something like a play, but the closer she looked the more real his appearance seemed to be.

How did the party go and what did you get? said Beth, bringing Rachael out of her deep thoughts.

Rachael laughed but told her that all she got were clothes that she needed for college.

Boring, replied Beth, now, if I’d been invited, you’d have received this little gem, she added as she handed over a tiny wrapped present.

It turned out to be a USB drive stick with her favorite bands’ new album on it.

Oh, thanks Beth, I was going to buy this at the weekend, said Rachael, as she hugged her.

Then something else happened that freaked Rachael out. She saw what looked like a tall lizard like humanoid approaching the school. It stood on two legs but its body was covered in scales, and its face looked more like a lizard than a man. As it got nearer, she overheard someone calling it Peter, and recognized the voice when it responded. It was Peter Lane who sat three rows back from her in class.

What the hell is going on? she said aloud.

Then she heard a whisper in her ear, and turned to see it was Mike.

You can see us, can’t you? he said softly.

Rachael just stared at his beautiful face for a moment, but wasn’t sure how to respond. Was she in danger if she revealed that she could see them for what they were? The only thing she knew for sure was that if there was one person, she could trust to help her, it was her mother. She made an excuse to move away for phone privacy, and immediately called her mother to let her know what was happening, and what she should do about it. Her mother could hear the panic in her daughter’s voice.

Okay, first things first, take a deep breath and calm down, said her mother.

Rachael did as she was told, and when her mother thought that she was calm enough, she asked her what she had seen. Rachael went into detail and waited for a response.

Oh, my dear child, this is better than I could ever have hoped. You have the gift of sight Rachael. This is exciting news. Do you remember me telling you about it yesterday? said her mother.

I remember you saying something about gifts, and that if I was lucky, I would get the gift of sight, but you never told me what the gift of sight is, replied Rachael.

Well, the reason I didn’t tell you was that I didn’t believe you’d get that particular gift. It’s one of the rarest gifts and coveted by most witches. Here’s the thing though Rachael, there are things in this world that are hidden from view for most mortals. The guy you called Mike for instance, and judging by your description, is an elf and the elven folk have the strongest magic. They can easily slip among us undetected and pass themselves off as human. However, they cannot fool those with the sight, which is something you have, explained her mother.

How many of these non-humans are there? asked Rachael.

Oh, at least a dozen and by the sound of it you have a lizard man in your school as well. I haven’t seen one of them for years, said her mother.

That’s the thing though, I’ve known the two guys we’re talking about for the past four years. Hell, I sit in the same class as one of them. Are they dangerous? replied Rachael.

No, I’ve not heard of any bad incidents for years. They just want to exist beside you, and I in peace, and get on with their lives, said her mother.

Okay, I think you’d better get all the information you have about these things, and this gift I have, and tell me about it all when I get home this afternoon, suggested Rachael.

Will do. In the meantime, just enjoy your last day at school and try not to freak out, okay?

Yeah, okay, I’ll see you later mom, love you, replied Rachael.

    Love you too sweetie.

With that she looked up to see Mike, still waiting for a response.

Yes, I can see you Mike. It turns out that I received the gift of sight on my birthday, and now know about your kind and others, said Rachael.

"Oh, wow Rachael, that’s a bigger deal
