life story
This Life Story begins in Germany in September of 1939 - the start of the Second World War
I reside with my wife Caroline in Gilroy, California.
I will not bore the reader with such common employee life experiences such as losing a job due to being at a relative young age to save the job of an older employee close to retirement as it happened to me in Toledo, Ohio when I was in my early forties. This event, however, was the catalyst for me to become self-employed as an Enrolled Agent¹ qualifying me to practice before the Internal Revenue Service and also to be active as a real estate broker in California².
History of my residences: First, as a child, I lived in fascist Germany; then, as a teenager and young adult I lived under communism in Red Army-occupied-Germany; subsequently I lived and worked mainly in then-West Germany, Canada, United States, and Mexico. In addition, I did financial audit and tax work in Switzerland, Belgium, Great Britain, and China either as an employee of an American Corporation or as a self-employed person.
I am writing about my life because my wife and my doctor at a Kaiser clinic felt my life experiences and events were too unusual not to be published and may enrich posterity. I began writing my story in 2017 because when I lived in Canada, most, if not all coworkers felt that I should forget the old country
and focus on my new home land - Canada. In the 1950s, World War II was recent history and the general thinking was that European products were inferior to North American products and the countries in Europe couldn’t possibly be up-to-date and were just old-fashioned or declining entities.
Life is not easy for many people. It is just an unsupported wish to tell someone that he or she can become whatever is strongly desired. Circumstances outside a person’s control are of significant influence. When one looks at the achievements of Robert Oppenheimer, the leader of the Manhattan project, it is a fact that Robert Oppenheimer was at the right place at the right time as World War II was coming to an end. As a consequence, Robert Oppenheimer did have a profound impact in world history. Otherwise, Robert Oppenheimer would be known today, for historical purposes, just as a former prominent Berkely professor. One has to do one’s best to prevail or win. So, when you believe things are tough now for you, please read about the following true events I experienced. After reading about my experiences, perhaps your situation may not be so
