Love Me Now - Michelle Barnette
SCENE 1
One year ago
A and B are lying in bed – they have clearly just finished having sex. There is no physical contact between the two.
A: Wow.
B: You can say that again.
A: Wow...
B: Lost for words?
A: Perhaps.
B: An improvement?
A: Quite.
B: I took up yoga – supposed to be good for my core. Flexibility and all that nonsense. Could you tell?
A: Mmm…
B: It’s great.
A: Yeah.
B: I mean, I only go twice a week but there was this study that said that thinking of doing exercise was as effective as actually doing the exercise.
A: That’s not exactly how the gym works –
B: I’ll send you the link.
A: It’s fine.
B: It isn’t a problem –
A: – really. I believe you.
B: It’ll take two seconds.
B finds her phone and sends him the link. His phone beeps.
B: Now you can read it on your way home.
A: Thanks.
B: Tell me what you think.
A: Sure.
B: It’s amazing though – just going to yoga once a week and you noticed the difference.
A: Twice, you – (said)
B: – and most of that was just me thinking of doing yoga, so really it was only like, half a session a week –
A: – how do you do half a session / of yoga?
B: / I mean really I never actually went to yoga.
A: You said you took it up. ‘Took it up’ implies attendance.
B: Well I invested in it. I bought a mat and everything.
A: You bought a mat.
B: Yeah.
A: Do you use it?
B: Well, no –
A: – well that’s not yoga.
B: You don’t need a mat to do yoga.
A: Oh my god.
B: Every time I put on the outfit I just don’t feel in the yoga kind of mood –
A: – surely that – (defeats the purpose)
B: Sure, the outfits look cute when you buy them – but then you actually put them on and it’s like you suffocate. I think they’ve done it on purpose, you know. The fitness industry. They invented camel toe so you’d hate yourself so much you’d exercise until you lose it. Like it’s motivation or something. But I want to do is put my trackies back on and get the Ben and
