Author

Marquis Burton

Marquis Burton was born in East St.Louis, Illinois in 1978. Growing up he had to learn how to grind in the streets to survive. Having only a 9th grade education and his first case by the age of 16, grinding seemed the only option and he excelled. Experiencing many of his friends and family being incarcerated or layed to rest and having close encounters with both personally; he realized, there has to be another way. With an entrepreneur-like mentality already he set out to turn his "grind" into a hustle.  Today Marquis is a published author with an array of other companies in his portfolio. Going from a convicted 16 year old to a successful buisness man, Marquis is the epitamy of the term "anything is possible".

    Conclusion

    Introduction

The 21st century is the era of doing differently.

Every group of humankind that has existed on the surface of the earth at any one particular time or the other developed their own ways to survive. At some point, everyone did their farming in a subsistence manner because they didn’t have access to mechanized tools that could make their lives easier. What they grew on their farms was what they ate with their families. If they were lucky and there was a little left over, then they could take this to the markets and sell – value exchange.

Another generation employed the trade by barter method. They realized that while food was central to their needs as humans, it wasn’t all they needed to live a full life. Therefore, everyone could not engage in farming. Some people had to employ trading as a way to feed their families and earn a living. The farmers provided food in exchange for other goods the traders had – value exchange.

Our transactions as humans have evolved beyond this early levels and taken on a more ginormous proportion. The reality of jobs keeps evolving with the advancement of years with some jobs getting phased out and other previously unheard of jobs being created.

In many cases, the number of hours spent working is directly proportional to the amount of money made, which meant there was a cap on how much money a person can make because it is impossible to work all the hours in the day; there needs to be some time allotted for rest and other aspects of life.

A lot of people use the word hustle and grind interchangeably, spreading the erroneous information that both words mean the same thing. It is true that hustle and grind are close enough and therefore, a lot can get lost in translation. But are they the same? The answer is unequivocally no.

There are differences between hustle and grind and those differences make all the difference in the results gotten. So you can expect that the result a hustler will get will be vastly different from that of a grinder.

As we work through these differences, I hope you’ll come to understand clearly the differences between both and why being a hustler is something you should aspire to.

It’s okay if you’re someone who grinds at the moment; the goal is to stretch and grow and that’s what I hope this book does for you.

    A grinder vs. a hustler

Before we get to the differences between grinding and hustling, let’s take a quick look at some of their similarities, which make it easy for them to overlap and fit into similar scenarios.

    -  They are both done in exchange for value – money

According to the Merriam Webster dictionary, money is defined as something generally accepted as a medium of exchange, a measure of value, or a means of payment.

Whether you’re a grinder or hustler, every day you go out there to work and provide products/services that other people need, you do it as a means of value exchange, for money.

We are all grinders in one way or the other, even the hustler. Think everyone you know; the gardener who makes sure your garden looks good, the babysitter you employ to watch your child while you’re off grinding for your daily bread, the cashier at your favorite produce store, the mechanic who takes a look at your car, the suave insurance agent who is attempting to sell you on why life insurance is the way to go, the teachers at your child’s school, your colleague at work who is in before everyone else and trying to rake up the hours...we are all grinders.

Hustlers are also grinders; the difference is they are grinders who didn’t stay grinding alone, but took it to another level.

    -  They are both done in a bid to contribute to society

Money is very important, but it is not the only reason we grind.

If you disagree, then take a minute to think about people who left the big towns to settle in and work in a small town because they were constantly searching for something that seemed elusive.  Think executives who resigned at the peak of their careers because it wasn’t filling all the holes inside them.

Ultimately, we all want to feel needed and useful, like our being here serves a purpose that supersedes us. We want to feel that by doing our day-to-day work, we are somehow contributing
