Sherry Raby: I grew up in a small borough in Central Pennsylvania, and still remain in a small borough in Central PA. I visited many different areas, and though winters can be harsh, I prefer the seasonal changes to no change. I've been writing since I was 14. The books back then weren't very good, but I've never lost the inner push to keep it up. I published a small children's story in Highlights magazine in the late 1970's. This was my first paid article. It took me almost 35 years of tears and hard knocks to get to where I could be able to publish a book. It was physically started about 10 years ago. Silent Screams by Sherry Raby. I am releasing When the River Rises. It's the stories of my ancestors through grandparent to grandparent to grandparent. I am married and have a total of eight children, and eleven grandchildren. I have migrated back to the hills of Northern Central Pennsylvania and find inspiration almost every day just by looking out my windows.

Just Fourteen - Sherry Raby
I’ve watched my granddaughter go from a beautiful little girl to a beautiful young lady.
I’m not too old to remember the teen years. I remember what I went through. I remember what my children went through.
I hear so many people say that today’s kids are just spoiled. There's not a one of them who appreciate anything about anything. I beg to differ with them.
Today’s children are what we make them. Their happiness, joys, and love of themselves comes from their upbringing.
I’m dedicating this book to my grandchildren, who makes me proud every day for the job my children are doing in raising them.
I love you, my Bree. You are and always will be my Submarina. Thank you for being the young woman you are and will be.

Just Fourteen
Chapter 1
Bree sat on the edge of her window seat staring out at the rain as it splashed in the already formed puddles, making ripples, like rocks being thrown into a pond. Her forehead was pressed against the glass and every so often, she would put her index finger to the small pool of fog, caused by the warmth of her breath on the cool window, and write her name inside a heart, put an arrow through it, then erase the entire thing without adding another name.
Bree sighed, unfolded her long legs, stretched her arms over her head, and on bare feet, she walked over to her closet and looked in.
Bree was fourteen and tonight was supposed to be her first date ever. Anxiety, nerves, and excitement warred within her. She hoped the rain would stop, yet she hoped it would keep on raining so Ty would change his mind.
What would she wear? Her new dress of course. Maybe she shouldn’t even go? Did I tell him where I live so he can pick me up? He already knows, stupid.
When the phone rang she started. Looking at the screen, she felt her heart skipping beats and almost didn’t answer. It was him. It was Tyler. Tyler was who she was going out with. Tyler was her best friend for more than three years now. Why was she going out with him? This was weird.
Hey Ty. What’s up?
Tyler cleared his throat. ‘Oh no. He’s going to call it off.’ She said to herself. ‘Maybe it’s a good thing.’
I’m getting nervous. I just wanted to hear your voice.
Bree blushed. Thinking about calling it off?
No!
He seemed surprised at her answer. I just wanted to talk to you. That’s unless you want to call it off.
Bree smiled at the phone. She started to laugh her throaty laugh that always made Tyler smile and laugh at the same time. You aren’t getting off that easy, Buster.
She flicked the dress her mother had bought for her. Mom is so excited about this date.
Mom? What about you?
He was teasing her. Maybe you’ll be homecoming queen.
Jackass. That’s for seniors. We’re just freshmen. And...it is not the Homecoming Dance. It’s the Freshman Formal.
I know. Just kidding. But you’re pretty enough.
He cleared his throat. Bree?
Bree was still smiling and teasing him. Ty?
You’re my best friend. But I’m glad you’re going to be my girlfriend.
Girlfriend? Tyler! I’m only fourteen.
Bree! So am I.
Tyler was laughing. But that doesn’t mean I can’t love you.
I’m only fourteen Ty!
She was huffing and sputtering. But I love you too. I’ll see you soon.
She hung up before he could say anything else. Those words shouldn’t be so hard for them. After all, they were best friends. More than once, one of them would pull a real blunder, or doing something absolutely disgusting that would get them both laughing and giggling like two five years old and they would say, ‘’It’s a good thing I love you." So why was this so different?
She pulled her new dress from the
