Born and bred in the old South Africa during the month of Sagittarius in the year of 1956. Although I am fairly Sag; the Chinese sign of Monkey with Fire element is really more descriptive. Nowadays I am no more horse and arrow; I am proud to be from the family of Ophiuchus. In this modern time what better area to have in your sign than the centre our Galaxy and holding the Control over the Snake! I live in Thailand where I had a yacht factory. My two sons are here with their families - hey I am the proud grandfather of none less than three grandsons and two grand daughters. My one son has taken the Yacht Chandlery and turned it into a very big successful business. www.asap-marine.com The other took over the yacht factory and turned that in a very big international acclaimed factory - www.bakricono.com. My Ex is in South Africa with a new live in her heart and there my two daughters are still enjoying the Sunny South with rainbow colours. In South Africa this grandpa has a pretty little granddaughter too! Now I am retired. Well, sort of. I am writing books, this is sometimes a 16 hour per day job doing research and getting the words typed into the computer. Soon I think I will start writing fiction. Sounds much easier than this non-fiction fact finding. Though I love the self education!

    Introduction

An eBook is just like any other normal paper book, only it is in electronic format. Like with any bookshop or library, you can buy eBooks or borrow them. There are many advantages; you can do it from your home and have a much bigger selection than in any bookstore. Best of all, it is much cheaper than the same paper book.

This book is a guide for people outside of the U.S.A. about eBooks (Electronic books) as well as pBooks (Printed-on-Demand paper books).

Maybe you want to buy an eBook, but you do not have a credit card – or you do not want to risk using your credit card on-line because of fraud and information theft problems.

Perchance you want to write a book and publish it, hoping to make some money; and you want to get that money back into your own pocket. Within the main centres like the U.S.A. UK, European Union and Australia – that is all easy. However, if you live outside of these main centres, things might be a little more difficult and sometimes it even seems to be impossible.

This book is the guide for you.

No doubt, even those in the main sectors like the U.S.A. will also find value.

It covers a general basic guide for writing and publishing your own eBook. Trips, tricks and traps for those who have discovered all sorts of obstacles when having to comply with American Law but you are not a citizen of that country. One of the biggest problems is - Amazon does not accept PayPal, and does not pay your royalties to PayPal either. In this book, you will find alternative solutions.

I am proudly from the old South Africa and my home language is Afrikaans. For the past 19 years, I have been living outside of South Africa, mostly in Thailand. A new life started for me just a few months ago when I began writing books, again. This time I now publish them, by myself, worldwide, on the internet – and some bookshops. In this book I am going to share my own experiences with you - with absolutely no bullshit. It was a steep learning curve and it took me many months to research the information I needed. Fortunately, I am a fast learner and I am a self-doer. I can use MS-Office and other software like Corel-Draw, etc. Although, I am just a common everyday level computer user; nothing too advanced or high tech.

It is always good to know what you can do, but it is better to know what you cannot do very well. I can research and write reports, I can dig out lots of information and follow threads and I can write reasonably well. However, I am not a native English speaker. By the time, I learnt English my brain was already developed, so it was very difficult. Another problem these days is that even my native Afrikaans is going down the drain. I do not use it much since leaving South Africa 19 years ago. Afrikaans is not exactly a worldwide spoken language, and living in Thailand requires a very low level of Pidgin English.

I can use graphics programs a bit, but I am definitely not artistic. Then, there is the problem most aspiring writers initially have – an empty bank account. Now, I have to apply all my best abilities and try to circumnavigate the things where I am not so good - without needing to own a bank.

I will give you some insight, which you might not find elsewhere. One of the biggest problems an ‘outsider’ faces; is that just about all the guidebooks and videos about writing and publishing eBooks are from people within the U.S.A. In other words, the information is American based. Mostly it does not matter – but sometimes there are problems.

After three months of full time work, and having a friend spending hours to correct my grammar, I was finally ready to publish my first 60-page book – The Emerald Buddha. The most obvious place to start was the Big Book Store – Amazon.com. Happily, I registered, logged on and started filling out their online form until they asked me for my bank details; which were not accepted … I do not have a bank account in the U.S.A! Therefore, they will need to send a cheque to my street address in Thailand
