About this ebook

Faced with the choice of hunting down and killing his human lover or being banished from his werewolf pack, Micah is forced to leave everything and everyone he loves. He finds a new pack in Northern Ontario that is willing to give him refuge. Determined to start over, Micah hopes to find a mate and settle down.

Forensic chemist, Shea, rarely gets any downtime, and that’s fine with him. As much as he loves his pack, he’s a bit of a loner and has no wish for a mate. After all, his slight anti-social tendencies, added to the fear of having anyone count on him, do not make him mate material. But when a new wolf joins the pack, Shea experiences emotions he’s never dealt with before, turning his whole tidy world upside down.

Being well aware Shea isn’t looking for a mate, Micah doesn’t know if he should pursue the genius or look for a mate elsewhere. But when tragedy strikes and passion ignites, can Shea just let Micah walk away?

    Micah's Refuge - Lynn Tyler

    Chapter One

The little twink groaned as Micah Warren ground his aching dick against the sweet ass the human presented to him. The guy wasn’t really Micah’s type. He enjoyed topping. Being in charge of someone else’s pleasure was nearly as hot as sinking into a willing body. But this guy had played hard to get, and while Micah didn’t mind a challenge once in a while, he didn’t want to have to work so hard for a one-night stand. But quite frankly, he was so damn horny even a keyhole would have done.

The ache in his dick intensified, and he closed his eyes, focusing on keeping his thrusts slow and even. His partner was small and human, and Micah found the need to concentrate on not hurting the guy a little bit of a mood killer. Humans were delicate and wouldn’t be able to handle his werewolf strength if Micah really let go and hammered into him the way he wanted. Still, the young man’s ass was tight, and he was enthusiastic enough.

He had the man bent over the back of his couch and was pounding away, albeit carefully, when he felt rather than heard the guy’s orgasm start. Smooth, muscular walls tightened around him, and Micah knew the guy only needed a little bit more to throw him over the edge.

Micah could go a lot longer, really draw out the pleasure for both of them, but it was in the middle of the day. He’d been so desperate to get laid he’d brought the human back to his house, banking on the fact most of the pack would be at work. The move was stupid, and the thought of what his alpha would do if he found out Micah had brought a human into Pack territory lingered at the back of his mind.

His dick didn’t care about the risk though. All it wanted was the temporary relief a willing body could provide him.

He wasn’t a jerk though. Micah wanted the guy to have a great climax. So Micah reached around the guy’s hip, palmed the straining erection, and stroked in time to his thrusts. He kept his strokes feather light, teasing until the very last second. Just when the guy started to whimper, Micah gave the dick in his palm one firm tug and the tight, hot little hole began contracting around him as heat washed over his hand. Oh man, the human squeaked. Oh fuck, man, that’s good.

His cock jerked and satisfaction swirled through him as Micah finally let go and emptied himself into the condom he’d been wearing.

God that orgasm had been just what he needed. Micah pulled out and eased his lover onto the couch. Stay there, babe. I’ll just get you something to clean up with and grab a couple of cold drinks.

The twink was clearly worn out, but he shot Micah a quick smile and let his lashes flutter closed. Thanks, man. I don’t think I could make my legs work right now anyway.

Man. The twink had called him man. Micah didn’t feel so bad about not remembering the guy’s name now because clearly the other man hadn’t remembered his name either. Then again, they’d both made it clear from the beginning that neither of them were into anything but scratching a mutual itch.

Micah sighed as he straightened. He’d been having anonymous sex for months now, and he was a little sick of it. Recently, sex had been leaving him feeling hollow, empty almost. He knew what the problem was. He was lonely. He would never admit it to anyone, but he was feeling the need to settle down with one man. Maybe it was time to start the search for another wolf who he could spend his life with. But in the meantime, he had the little human here to take care of.

No problem, he said as he peeled the latex off. He couldn’t give or get human diseases, and it wasn’t like he had to worry about getting a male pregnant, but there would have been questions if he hadn’t used a condom. Questions he didn’t necessarily have the answers for.

It wasn’t like he could just advertise the fact he was a werewolf.

I got beer, some kind of cola, some flat ginger ale, and water. You got a preference? he called over his shoulder as he made his way to the kitchen.

Actually, a beer would be great. I think we’re going to need it.

The voice at his kitchen door startled him, and he spun around to face his alpha. He dropped his eyes and stared at the bigger man’s chest in deference. Baring his throat, he stepped back, putting himself between the bigger wolf and the living room door. Alpha, he whispered, hoping to find out what the wolf wanted and get rid of him before either he discovered the human in the house or the twink got curious and wandered in. What can I do for you? he asked as he opened the fridge and grabbed a beer.

The alpha twisted the cap off and took a long swallow. Someone called to say they saw you drive up with a stranger.

Every muscle in Micah’s body tightened as he prepared himself for his alpha’s displeasure. There was no telling what he would do. He ruled the pack with an iron fist, and Micah had broken one of the cardinal rules: no relationships with humans past casual interactions.

The alpha’s relaxed stance and calm voice didn’t fool him. He could feel the tension in the more dominant wolf. He could also feel the rage simmering just under the surface of the leader’s calm facade. His alpha had already scented the human. Where is he?

Alpha, please… Micah said, searching for a way out of the predicament he’d just put himself and, worse, the human in. He doesn’t know anything. It was a one-time thing, I swear. He doesn’t even know my name.

You could have compromised the safety of this pack, you idiot. Bring me the human, Micah. I will deal with him.

Well, shit. He couldn’t defy a direct order from his alpha, but he could twist the order around a little. He’s in the living room, Micah said through gritted teeth.

The wolf stalked past him and jerked the lightly dozing human from the couch. He held the guy by the throat, shaking him just a little. I’m going to take him to the cell in my basement until tonight. I’ve already called an emergency meeting. We’ll discuss his fate and your punishment there.

Oh fuck. The alpha wasn’t known for his mercy, especially toward humans who found themselves in his path. The poor human must have sensed it too because there was a puddle forming on the floor that had nothing to do with what he and the twink had done just a few minutes ago. Alpha, I swear. He doesn’t know anything. Just let him go.

Stay where you are until we’re gone. He dragged the human behind him. The poor guy was so scared, he didn’t even fight. Meet us at the hunting grounds at five p.m. sharp.

Five o’clock was a little early for a pack meeting. Hopefully, it was only because the alpha had plans for the evening. He didn’t think the alpha would really let the pack hunt a human for fear of his wolves going mad with blood lust, but he couldn’t be 100 percent certain about that.

Luckily, it was still early in the afternoon, so he had a decent amount of time to figure out how to get the human out of danger.

The alpha had ordered him to stay where he was until he and the human were gone, which meant he could have technically left as soon as the door closed behind the two men.

The man was alpha because of his strength and brutality, not because he was smart. In fact, Micah had always thought the leader was a little stupid. And stupidity combined with arrogance sometimes led to mistakes. Micah was counting on those mistakes to help free the human.

After that … well he didn’t know. The alpha might be stupid, but he had a knack for knowing his pack members’ worst fears and then translating them into the worst possible disciplines.

After waiting what he deemed a suitable amount of time, Micah left the house, strolling over to the Alpha House, trying his best to look casual. The alpha wouldn’t want anyone to know he was holding a human. It went against the rules set down by the Council of Elders.

He knocked on the door. No answer, just as he’d thought. His leader had probably gone back to work. He wouldn’t think anyone would dare defy him.

Normally, Micah wouldn’t either, but he needed to get the little human out before anything happened to him. His alpha was just sadistic enough to let the human suffer from fright just so he could make an example out of him at tonight’s pack meeting.

The door was unlocked, and he slipped in quickly after looking around to make sure no one was watching. Micah shook his head at how easy it was to get into the Alpha House. Apparently, the man’s arrogance extended to the belief that no one in his pack would ever seek to challenge him by ambushing him his own home.

Whatever. He wasn’t there to challenge for leadership of the pack. He wasn’t stupid enough to think he could be an alpha, nor did he want to lead a pack. It was far too much responsibility for him. He was just there to spring the human and encourage him to get as far away from the city as possible. It sucked that the guy would have to give up his life here, but maybe, in a year or so, he could come back and stay under the radar once Keith realized he meant no danger to the pack.

Micah knew the way around the Alpha House well. He’d built the damn thing from the ground up, and he’d even put in the cell. The steel-lined room wasn’t meant to hold a human but a crazed werewolf.

He made his way through the building, knowing his scent would be all over the Alpha’s house. He didn’t worry too much about that though. He’d been here just yesterday fixing a leaky tap. What worried him most was the thought that the man may be just smart enough to keep the key to the cell with him instead of on the hook by the cell lock.

The human was curled up in a corner of the cell, crying softly into his hands when Micah crept into the basement. The alpha hadn’t left any guards at all, apparently confident the human wouldn’t be able to get out on his own. Which was true, of
