Money Is an Effect and Not a Cause - Dr. Leland Benton
Introduction – In the Heat of the Night
In the heat of the night, our doubts and fears always seem to surface. What we contemplate in the dark seems to be completely different when morning dawns. I don’t know why this unusual phenomenon occurs but I have witnessed this in my own life and at the ripe ol’ age of 60, it still continues to amaze me.
Doubt and fear are conscious mind reaction to being out of control. Fear doesn’t reside in our subconscious mind. I mention this fact because due to the current economic downturn in our economy, there has been much fear…a fear that has permeated throughout our society. And this fear more often than not centers on finances and money.
Advertisers take advantage of this fact and this is called scarcity thought
in psychology. Scarcity thought is thinking that you are entitled to something because you deserve it or that someone is getting your share and you aren’t getting yours. It is not centered in rational thinking since affordability is not taken into consideration; hence, people saddle themselves with multiple debts while their quality of life evaporates.
Money or wealth is an effect and not a cause. People have a tendency to invert this equation making money and wealth a cause. Money and wealth are the effect of hard work and smart decisions; it is often labeled entrepreneurial spirit or the American Dream
.
In this book I want to discuss all aspects of wealth attainment and wealth capture. But with anything, making money can be made easy but keeping
it turns out to be the real problem.
Chapter 1 – Attack or Attract Wealth
In this chapter, I want to discuss how we, as wealth seekers, always have a tendency to attack the quest for money rather than approach wealth building as an attraction of money.
In many of my previous books I used one of my famous adages, Hunting is for fools who have never heard about bait!
Some people hunt while others bait… this is something to think about and something we will discuss in detail.
I want to begin by telling you a story. It goes to the heart of the matter of hunting versus baiting…
Iron Can Do What Gold Cannot
In a land unknown and long ago, lived a king with two sons. As heirs to his fortune, the king gave each son a key to the imperial treasury. To the oldest son, he gave a key made of pure gold. However, to the youngest son, he gave a key made of hardened iron.
The oldest son held his gift in his hand almost sneering at his younger brother, My gift is greater than yours so my inheritance will be greater,
he bragged, as the younger son looked on. Someday I will be king!
he finished, waiting for his younger brother’s protest.
The younger brother just smiled. You will be an interesting king, brother.
the younger one replied. God willing he will see you for what you are and give you all that you deserve.
The older brother, now definitely sneering, answered, What does God have to do with it? I have the gold, and that is all I need to rule.
The younger brother queried, But what will you rule, brother? The people need the hope and promise of a good future. If you keep all the gold, how will they live?
The older brother stroked his beard, then pointing at his younger sibling, responded, They can have all of the iron, just like you, brother.
The older brother laughed a bellicose laugh as he walked away.
The years passed, and one day the king died. The exchequer of the treasury summoned the brothers to the treasury chamber. When they had assembled, he said to both of them, "Your father gave you each a key. The key that unlocks the door to the imperial treasury will also mark the person who will be our new king. May I have
