He spent most of his working life in an editorial capacity in the periodical department of George Newnes publishers (they ceased trading in the middle of the 1970) of illustrated books, popular and library fiction. He was fascinated with the West and when retired and living in Kew, London he created the character of Sudden. The Range Robbers, the first in the series, was meant to be the only Western he wanted to write.
