About this audiobook

A spellbinding literary thriller about terror, war, greed, and the darkest secrets of the human soul, by the author of the million-copy bestseller, The Interpretation of Murder.September 16, 1920. Under a clear blue September sky, a quarter ton of explosives is detonated in a deadly attack on Wall Street. Fear comes to the streets of New York.Witnessing the blast are war veteran Stratham Younger, his friend James Littlemore of the New York Police Department, and beautiful French radiochemist Colette Rousseau. A series of inexplicable attacks on Colette, a secret buried in her past, and a mysterious trail of evidence lead Younger, Littlemore, and Rousseau on a thrilling international and psychological journey – from Paris to Prague, from the Vienna home of Dr Sigmund Freud to the corridors of power in Washington, DC, and ultimately to the hidden depths of our most savage instincts. As the seemingly disjointed pieces of Younger and Littlemore’s investigations come together, the two uncover the shocking truth about the bombing – a truth that threatens to shake their world to its foundations.

I love Bentley Little and this was another great book by a great horror author - a must read!

Over the years, I found Bentley Little's books to be mostly "hits" with only a few misses. This book leans more toward the latter. It's a very early work and is not written with the polish or suspense that his later books have. It's got plenty of gore and a number of underdeveloped characters. The hardest thing to accept, though, is the book's antagonist. Enough said.

If you're new to Little's world, stick to one of his later novels like The Store or The Policy and move on from this one.

Cathy was only six when the man that lived next door killed his wife and then himself.Twenty years have passed and the house is still there but is no longer vacant and something dreadful is beginning to happen in the neighborhood. The first victim is found skinned alive, the second in the street with every bone in her body rearranged. The screams are starting again from the house across the street. Whatever is happening inside is a secret that no one is suppose to know... that no one knows and lives.

This horror novel was first published in the U.S. as DEATH INSTINCT (under the pseudonym Phillip Emmons). There was only one printing in paperback and no hard cover. It was later published in the U.K. as EVIL DEEDS using the author's real name.
