Reading a Robert Whitlow book is an experience in all the senses. You can taste all the good food that they ate. You can feel all the emotions: good, bad, ugly, moving. You can see the beauty and smell the fragrance of the flowers in the garden. And you can hear the emotions in their voices expressing joy and sadness.
I really enjoyed reading this book and even having a good cry or two was good for my soul. Seeing how troubles are all around us yet sometimes we fail to see what’s actually going on. There’s always more to the story, it’s never one-sided. This book kept me guessing until the end. I would love to read a sequel and get caught up with the characters and their lives. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

I received this book as a GoodReads giveaway from the publisher. I was not told to give a favorable review. "Trial and Error" is a great vehicle for bringing the very real tragedy of sex trafficking and family abuse to the forefront. The book reminds us how crucial our relationships with our children (especially teenagers) are. It brings to light terrible events that happen daily in the shadows and back alleys of towns and cities across America. As always, Robert Whitlow puts the gospel message into several pages and shows what faith in Jesus can do. I would like to have that boldness, faith, and prayer life he portrays in his characters. This novel is a romance with a happily ever after. It is also an eye-opening read about a very real crisis in America that we all need to be educated about. - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

Robert Whitlow is a must-read author for both my husband and me. We appreciate the finely drawn characters and the story lines that are entertaining while making you think. Trial And Error has both of those elements. I liked the day-to-day lives that were depicted in the book making the characters very relatable. It did slow the story down somewhat, but I think the way Whitlow writes reflects real life. The subject matter focuses on missing/lost children — some in danger and others that don’t want to be found. The research that goes into finding a missing person was fascinating. The faith thread is especially strong, and the depiction of the impact of prayer is powerful. Some characters are Christians, others are not, but are open to honest dialog and sincere testimonies. I found that very meaningful. As I said, this is a slow-moving story, but I never lost interest. The audiobook is well done and was a great accompaniment on my morning walks.
All in all, I enjoyed Trial And Error.
Recommended.

Trial and Error, by Robert Whitlow, is a contemporary Christian mystery thriller that kept me reading to see what was going to happen. Buddy Smith is a lawyer who'd infant daughter and her mother went missing just after the child's birth. He has never given up on trying to find them. Now a young boy and a teen girl in towns goes missing and he takes on the cases to try to find them. Working with the county clerk of courts, Grace, and a new detective in town, Mayleah, they diligently work to find the missing girl.
This is such a good story. It is well written with strong characters. There are sensitive topics in this story, such as teen pregnancy, unwed mothers, child abduction and human trafficking. The author does a great job of writing the story without going into deep details. There are many good things that stand out to me in this story. I enjoyed the strong faith and the importance of prayer in the lives of Grace and Buddy's mother. Another is the secret Buddy's father kept from Buddy and his mother and how it affected their lives.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
