Sumi Hahn
Sumi Hahn was born in Korea and immigrated to the United States when she was a year old. A former English teacher, she got her bachelor's in English literature from Harvard University and her master's from UC Berkeley. She was a columnist for The Times Picayune in New Orleans and has written about food and music for various publications in Seattle. She and her family now divide their time between New Zealand and Korea. The Mermaid from Jeju is her debut novel.

Readers find this title to be a lovely story with insight into the daily life of the time period in Korean history. It provides details of the inner lives of the main characters and is highly recommended. However, some readers found the storyline to be disjointed and got lost towards the end. They were also not fans of the narrators in the book.

A lovely story, with insight into the daily life of this time period in Korean history, and into the lives of the famous strong female divers. So many details of the inner lives of all the main characters as well. Highly recommended! - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5

I enjoyed the first part of this book but got a bit lost towards the end. I was not a fan of the narrators in this book.1 person found this helpful
