Alice's Adventures in Underland Series
()
About this series
One thing was certain, that the zombies had everything to do with it...
Almost nine years have passed since that golden afternoon when gentleman zombie Charles Dodgson told Alice Liddell and her two sisters the story of Alice's Adventures in Underland, the story of how Alice goes to the land of the zombies and what she finds there--and how she escapes.
The real Alice is no longer a little girl, but a young woman on the cusp of adulthood, troubled by the restricted life ahead of her as an upper-class woman in Victorian Britain. Soon she will have to look for a husband...whom she hopes to find in a younger son of Queen Victoria, her old friend and playmate, Prince Leopold.
Queen Victoria has other ideas.
Then another, more virulent outbreak of the zombie virus spreads across Britain, leaving nowhere untouched...with Alice's only hope being, once again, Mr. Dogson and one of his wonderful stories, this time on the other side of a looking glass...
The Knight of Shattered Dreams finishes the story from book 1, Alice's Adventures in Underland: The Queen of Stilled Hearts. For older teens and up. Some gore and violence--not recommended for younger readers.

It was a truth generally agreed that the dead had rights, provided they did not exercise them. England survived the zombie plague rampant during the Napoleonic wars and took its lessons to heart. The rabid dead fell to the torch and the musket; the rest submitted to treatment, regulation, and usefulness. A carefully administered fungal draught, plus an abundance of rules, let the Infected pass for civilized British subjects—so long as obedience holds. Charles Dodgson is Infected, as well as a respected Oxford don of mathematics and fashionable photographer. On a supervised summer boat trip to entertain the daughters of Dean Henry Liddell, he begins a harmless nonsense tale: a story of White Rabbits and Red Queens, of croquet and crowns, and of a place called Underland—the homeland of the undead. But nonsense has a way of saying what sense will not. As the story unfolds, it begins to mirror uncomfortable truths about authority, appetite, and the cost of keeping order. Certain rules start to look less like protection and more like permission for cruelty. Alice Pleasance Liddell listens carefully. She asks questions. She notices when the answers do not fit. And in a world where obedience is prized above justice, curiosity can be a dangerous thing. Step into Underland—but mind the rules.

Every summer as kids, we would host one group of cousins or another and jump off hay bales, create mazes by crawling the patterns through the tall grass, and steal green apples out of the garden. We also branded calves, killed chickens, and stole steak knives to threaten skunks with. But that's growing up on a farm for you. Now I write fantasy, science fiction, and horror--and most of it comes from the worlds that I created as a farm kid, one way or another. My first novel, Choose Your Doom: Zombie Apocalypse, was published by Doom Press in 2010 and can be purchased through Meta Geek. "This is how I like my zombies: fast and funny. Choose this book, and you won't be choosing your doom. You'll be choosing hours of gooey, gory hilarity." - Steve Hockensmith, New York Times best-selling author of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: Dawn of the Dreadfuls My short story, "The End of the World," about fairies on the Great Plains, received an honorable mention in Ellen Datlow's Best Horror of the Year, Vol. 3. I also write murder-mystery party games for Freeform Games in the UK. See my website and blog at deannaknippling.com.
