In order to receive the CompTIA A+ certification, you must pass two exams: Core 1 (220- 1001) and Core 2 (220-1002). CompTIA A+ Core 1 measures the necessary skills for an entry level IT professional. Successful candidates will have the knowledge required to:

    ●  Assemble components based on customer requirements

    ●  Install, configure, and maintain PCs, mobile devices, and software for end users

    ●  Understand the basics of networking and security forensics

    ●  Properly and safely diagnose, resolve, and document common hardware and software issues

    ●  Apply troubleshooting skills

    ●  Provide appropriate customer support

    ●  Understand the basics of scripting, virtualization, desktop imaging, and deployment

    1.3 Exam Details

The new CompTIA A+ Core Series includes expanded content on these growing parts of the IT support role:

    ●  A general expansion of baseline security topics core to the IT support role, including physical versus logical security concepts and measures, malware and more.

    ●  A dramatically different approach in defining competency in operational procedures including basic disaster prevention and recovery and scripting basics.

    ●  A greater dependency on networking and device connectivity.

    ——————————————————————————————————

    Question 1:

Mike's newly configured computer (using manual IP settings) can't access a Web site by its fully-qualified domain name (FQDN), but he can access it by the Web site's IP address. Everyone else on the network can access the site by the FQDN. Which of the following is the MOST likely problem?

The computer’s DNS server is down.

The computer's DNS settings are incorrect.

The computer’s DNS Client service is disabled.

The computer does not have DNS permissions enabled on the default gateway.

    Answer: B.

    Explanation

    Correct Answer:

Your DNS settings are incorrect. Given that most systems use DHCP, it's rare to have a problem like this, but if you typed in invalid manual DNS settings into your NIC's Properties, this can happen.

    Incorrect Answers:

If you were to turn off the DNS Client service on your computer, you would get this problem. However, there is a much smaller chance that this service would be disabled than that someone had entered an invalid DNS service IP address.

In a single network, everyone USUALLY uses the same DNS server, so if the DNS server is down for you, it's down for everyone else. Granted, you might have a different DNS server, so this answer is valid, but not as valid as entering an invalid DNS server IP address.

Routers don’t have an item in their Access Control Lists called DNS permissions. You COULD block DNS from getting through your router by blocking port 53 (DNS), but then no one could get DNS access. Most routers have the ability to block a port number for a single IP or MAC address, but, again, it's simply too unlikely.

    Question 2:

A user calls the help desk because an important presentation folder is missing from the desktop of his system. The user is certain the folder was there the previous day. The technician views the properties of the parent folder, and confirms a backup listed on the "Prior Versions'' tab. According to the theory of troubleshooting, which of the following is the technician's NEXT step?

Test the theory to determine the cause.

    Document findings, actions and outcomes.

Establish a theory of probable cause.

Verify full system functionality and implement preventive measures.

    Answer: C.

    Explanation

    Correct Answer:

Once you have identified a problem, the next step in troubleshooting theory is to establish a theory of probable cause.

    Incorrect Answers:

Test the theory is incorrect, you need to create the theory first.

You cannot document findings, actions and outcomes when you do not have any yet.

Verifying the system does not help solve the customer's problem, and since we don't know what happened yet; we cannot implement preventative measures.

    Question 3:

A Windows system is unable to connect to the network. A ping loopback test verifies that the network card is working. What is your next step in troubleshooting the problem?

Verify that the switch is working properly.

Check to see if the link light on the NIC is on.

    Run IPCONFIG.

Install the driver for the network card.

    Answer: B.

    Explanation

    Correct Answer:

The next step is to check for connectivity. Look at the link light on the NIC to see that it is on, indicating a good connection to the hub or switch.

    Incorrect Answers:

The other options might be helpful, but they are not your next step.

    Question 4:

Harry thinks his AC adapter may not be charging the battery properly. What is the very first item he should
