Living the Light - Vincent Tolman
INTRODUCTION
In 2003, Vincent (Vinney) Tolman was found dead in the bathroom of a small restaurant. He had been dead for over half an hour.
When paramedics arrived, they put him in a body bag and took him away. A rookie paramedic had a feeling to risk his career, break all protocols, and try to resuscitate Vinney. Miraculously, he restarted Vinney’s heart, and Vinney was in a coma for three days.
During his near-death experience, Vinney met a guide who introduced himself as Drake. Drake taught Vinney ten principles, as recounted in the book The Light After Death. These principles, if applied in your life, will help you live with more spiritual light in your life and strengthen your connection with God. While the principles appear fairly simple at first glance, implementing them can sometimes be difficult.
This workbook is designed to help you implement these ten points of light in your life. The ten principles are:
TEN PRINCIPLES
TO HELP YOU LIVE WITH MORE
SPIRITUAL LIGHT AND STRENGTHEN YOUR
CONNECTION WITH GOD
1. Be authentic
2. Understand the purpose of life
3. Love everyone
4. Listen to your inner voice
5. Use technology responsibly
6. Release prejudice
7. Exercise the power of creation
8. Avoid negative influences
9. Understand the purpose of evil
10. Know that we are all one
Terms in This Workbook
This workbook uses terms similar to those found in The Light After Death. As stated in the Author’s Note of that book,
Please feel free to apply your own name, vision, or concept of God as you go through this workbook. If you participate with a group, please be mindful of and respectful toward different concepts of God that others may hold. Sharing these different concepts can help to enrich our understanding of the Creator of us all, and gives us an opportunity to love others as God loves each of us.
How to Use This Workbook
This workbook is designed to help you implement the ten principles in your life. The lessons are organized to spend one week on each lesson, but you can go through each lesson at whatever pace works best for you.
Some of this work gets hard, which means that you may be tempted to quit part way through. Two things help most people stick with it:
1. Join an active support group with a facilitator. Going through the workbook with a group often helps participants stay engaged. Making commitments to the group can help you live up to the commitments that you make each week. The group can also help sup- port and strengthen you, and may provide insights that help you better understand the principles and apply them in your life.
2. Have an action partner. An action partner helps to make sure that you are following through on your commitments throughout the week and not getting lost in the larger group. They are also someone who you can help in return as they strive to live their own commitments. This mutual support will help to raise and strengthen both of you.
The workbook is also designed for use with a small group, though you can go through it on your own if you prefer. While this course can work with groups of various sizes, we recommend a group size of 5 to 10 participants.
If used in a small group, we recommend that one person acts as the facilitator. The facilitator is not an instructor, but rather a group leader who helps to guide the group through the material by asking participants to read, directing the timekeeper, and keeping the discussion focused and moving.
If you would like to participate in a group with an experienced facilitator that has been trained by Living God’s Light, you can learn more at LivingGodsLight.org.
Living God’s Light Facilitators
Living God’s Light has trained people in how to effectively facilitate workbook groups. If you would like to participate in a group with one of these facilitators, or if you would like to become a Living God’s Light facilitator, you can learn more at LivingGodsLight.org/workbook.
This workbook and any group participation is for educational purposes only. It is not group therapy or professional treatment for spiritual or mental health issues. If anyone in the group needs assistance for any such issue, they should consult a professional in that area.
For Facilitators
Anyone can choose to organize and facilitate a group. Facilitating is a rewarding way to help others learn to apply the ten principles in their lives while building mastery of the principles in your own life.
Organizing a Group
If you would like to organize and facilitate a group, we recommend that you do the following:
1. Pick a consistent time and day of the week to meet. This will help group members plan ahead so they can attend every session.
2. Decide whether to meet either in person or virtually by video conference. Each way has unique advantages, and you will need to decide which is best for you and the group members.
3. Ensure that each group member has a copy of The Light After Death and this workbook.
4. Test whatever technology you plan to use to share videos and other material to ensure that it will work as expected.
Before Each Meeting
1. Briefly review the lesson for the week.
2. Prepare yourself mentally and spiritually.
3. Have all video references handy (either downloaded or pre-loaded as a web page).
During Each Meeting
1. Start and end on time.
2. Encourage everyone to participate.
