Kill Kit - Maureen Anne Meehan

    Dedication

To the lone riders who chase freedom on two wheels –

And to the restless souls who find their truth on the open road.

May your engines roar as loud as your courage.

To those who ride fast, live free, and know that every highway holds a secret –

May your journey always outrun the darkness.

To the road warriors of Sturgis, where every mile tells a story, and every ride is a promise –

    This one’s for you.

    Author’s Note

    Ride Eternal

    Midnight asphalt, moonlight gleam,

A Harley hums through a restless dream.

    Steel and spirit, power untamed,

Every mile calls out my name.

Wind in my face, the world in my sight,

Chasing the dawn, burning the night.

Echoes of freedom, loud and clear –

A Harley’s roar is what I hold dear.

No chains bind where the highway leads,

Just open roads and fiery speeds.

Ride eternal, wild and bold –

A Harley’s soul can’t be bought or sold

    Chapter 1

Aburied kill kit was discovered by some campers in the Big Horn Mountains above Sheridan, Wyoming, bringing the FBI once again to Sheridan to investigate.

I’m with my team heading your way, John Douglas said to Mary MacIntosh from the FBI’s private jet.

Let me guess, Mac replied. The kill kit was found at Little Goose Campground last weekend. Israel Keyes copycat, right?

You are a good guesser, John said. Keyes was a very methodical serial killer, and to even think that this is either one of his many undiscovered buried kill kits or it is the kit of a copycat killer is thoroughly terrifying.

    Truly, Mac said.

Did you open the file that I emailed you regarding Israel Keyes?

I did. I read it this morning over coffee, and it is truly frightening that he was so organized and methodical about burying his kill kits, remembering where they were, and then finding an opportunity to isolate a woman near one of these kits and kill her. This is very macabre, Mac said,

After Israel Keyes was arrested for the murder of 18-year-old Samantha Koenig in Alaska in 2012, authorities realized that the man they had in custody was a prolific serial killer. Keyes freely admitted as much. During conversations with investigators, the 34-year-old, sometime construction worker, revealed the names of two additional victims, along with tantalizing clues about other murders he had committed around the country over a period of years. But Keyes killed himself in his Anchorage, Alaska jail cell, leaving a trail of unanswered questions and unidentified victims, John said.

Gone, but not forgotten, Mac said.

Definitely not forgotten. Later today, we are releasing new information in the hopes that the public can help us identify others who died at Keyes’ hands. The information includes extensive videotaped conversations with Keyes in jail and an interactive map that contains a detailed timeline on his known movements beginning in 1997, John said.
