    It was a cold, rainy morning in Willowbrook. Mia zipped up her yellow raincoat and grabbed her bright red umbrella from the hook by the door. Stay dry! her mother called as Mia stepped outside.

    The streets glistened with puddles, and raindrops tapped like tiny drums against her umbrella. Despite the dreary weather, Mia loved walking to school—it was her time to daydream and splash through puddles.

    As she turned the corner near the park, she noticed a boy standing under a big oak tree. He hugged his backpack close, his hair dripping wet. Mia slowed down, curious.

    Hi, she said, stepping closer. Why are you standing here?

    I forgot my umbrella, the boy sniffled. I don’t want to be late for school, but I’ll get completely soaked if I run there.

    Mia glanced at her umbrella. It wasn’t very big—just enough for one person. If she shared it, she’d probably get wet too. But then she remembered something her mother always said: Kindness makes the world warmer, even on rainy days.

    She took a deep breath. Come on, she said, tilting the umbrella toward him. We can share.

    The boy’s eyes widened in surprise. Really? Thanks a lot!

    They walked side by side, their shoes splashing through puddles. Rain dripped off the edges of the umbrella, but Mia held it steady so the boy wouldn’t get wet again.

    I’m Timmy, he said after a while.

    I’m Mia, she replied, smiling.
