    Chapter 1

    Chuck

I woke up this morning thinking about this chick I met last night. Damn! She was bad! Tim, Lil Tony, and I went to Club Soda, one of the hottest spots in the gun. So there I was sitting at the bar, and these two chicks walked in. One had on a green leopard dress with some high heels on, and her hair was a silky jet-black, tied up into some kind of fancy style or something. She had on some stylish glasses that looked so good on her caramel-complexioned face. Her friend was 6’2 tall with no ass at all, but she was sexy, though, so I walked over to them and introduced myself. Hello, ladies, my name is Chuck." Usually I don’t do anything like this, but I just couldn’t help myself.

She said, Hi, I’m Terry, and this is my friend Alisha.

Hi, I’m glad to meet y’all.

Since I was trying to make a good impression, I offered, them a drink.

Alisha said, Pepsi for me because I don’t drink alcohol.

    And for you, Ms. Lady?

Terry said, Some Patron on ice.

By the time I got up to the bar, Lil Tony came up to me and said, Yeah, this place wouldn’t be a bad investment. I like the scenery, and this place does have a lot of potential. I had almost forgotten about what the purpose of us even being here was. I had got sidetracked. So I brought the ladies back their drinks and told them I had some business to take care of and gave Terry my card just in case I didn’t get a chance to see her caramel-colored face before one of us left. Plus, I couldn’t let all that ass slip away. She was thick as hell. I hoped she’d call me. Before I walked off, she said, Do you even remember my name?

I said, Of course, I do. Terry, right?

Yeah, she said with a friendly smirk on her face.

You just make sure you use the number.

She said sarcastically, I will think about it.

So I gave her my, Mack Daddy Menace II Society Caine look and walked away. Big Red had made a sweet offer to us for the nightclub, but you know you just cannot jump into something without checking it out first. Now Tim was this mathematical genius that I have known damn near all my life, well, at least since grade 3. He, his mom, and his elder sister Meggy moved here after his mom and dad divorced. Tim graduated and was top of his class in finances, so he was the best business partner anyone could ever have, and on top of that, I didn’t know much about running a real legitimate business. I was always on that double my paper-type shit—you know, street life—and I was good at it too. Now I really didn’t like Lil Tony much at first because he reminded me of this little short bigheaded dude that thinks he knows everything about life but doesn’t know a damn thing about the streets. He is different in his own way, but he is my best friend in the world. I wouldn’t replace the little fella for anyone. So once we had all sat down and talked to Big Red, he made us a deal out of this world, so we had no choice but to jump on it. Congratulations to the new Club Soda owners! We all celebrated with a glass of champagne. By that time it was 1:00 a.m. I went back out to see if Terry was still around, but I couldn’t see her. I guess they had left early. Damn! I wanted to see that ass again! I thought to myself. So I ordered myself a drink and told my boys that I was out and that I will get with them tomorrow. I went out and jumped into my brand-new Navigator I just bought. I cruised around the town for a while before I went home. When I arrived home, there was an unknown car parked in my driveway—a black BMW—so I reached and grabbed my Glock that I kept in between the console. I cocked my shit back and slowly opened up my door and got out. By this time, this nice, tall, petite, yellow lady jumped out and asked me whether I remembered her. Her voice sounded really familiar, but I couldn’t see her face. Then I took a closer look and said, Jackie, what are you doing here?

She had moved to Texas last year for a high firm lawyer position. She ran up to me and gave me a hug.

I said, Damn, girl, I see you are still looking good and smelling good too!

She said, You don’t look so bad yourself!

I said, Well, I try to keep myself up. Why didn’t you call me and tell me that you were coming to town?

I did try calling, but it said your number was no longer in service.

That’s right. I had changed my number about a month ago because this dumb broad kept playing on my phone. I had a stalker.

I hope she isn’t stalking right now because you know me. I’d slice a bitch real quick.

Girl, you’re so silly. Give me a hug.

Damn! She smelt even better than what I remembered! She had asked me to come with her, but at that time, I wasn’t trying to relocate. I’d really missed her when she left. I think I was falling in love, or maybe it was just lust because she was something freaky and fine as hell. I used to call her GG because she was God’s gift to me. So I insisted that she stay the night with me because I refused to let her leave. We had some catching up to do. She agreed. I was going to be a gentleman. I let her sleep in the guest room even though I wanted to crawl my ass into her badly and fuck her brains out and let her know how much I missed her, but I didn’t. By the time I woke up in the morning, Jackie was already up cooking some sausages and eggs. She knew how I liked to eat breakfast when I woke up. You were sleeping so good, mister, I didn’t want to wake you until I was done.

Oh, it’s cool. I should’ve been up by now anyway. I have to meet up with my new business partners, we bought club soda.

She said, Congratulations! So you guys finally did it.

I said, Yep, we sure did.

Your phone has been ringing all morning, playing the Scarface anthem.

Oh yeah, that was Tim. Before I could get his name out, the phone started ringing again, playing the Scarface anthem.

    Yo! What’s good, Tim?

Chuck, where the fuck you’ve been, man? I have been trying to call you all this morning.

    Man, what’s wrong?

After we left the club last night, some dudes came through and shot that bitch up.

Are you serious? Man, that is fucked up!

You think, man? I need to hook up with you right away.

OK, let me finish eating breakfast, and I will be on my way. By the time I pulled up to Tim’s crib, he, Lil Tony and his cousin Marques were out there smoking on some of that loud shit. Dude, what the fuck happened last night?

Lil Tony said, All I know is when you left last night, the Brooklyn court guys came in talking shit to Big Red. I couldn’t really hear what they were talking about, but I know it was about the club though, because Red was like I sold it already. The niggas left, and five minutes later, all hell broke loose. It was like the Fourth of July, niggas running, bitches running. Shit, they almost shot me if I wouldn’t have moved out of the damn way, but anyway, the club is fucked up, and it’s going to take a lot of change to get it back up and running. So I don’t think we should consider even going through with it now because what if the niggas come back and decide they want to do the shit again, then what?

Tim said, We are not going to let these hoody rat ass niggas stop our dreams because they wanted the spot and couldn’t get it. Tell them cats to get their weight up, and we should send them a message for coming through fucking our shit up like that.

Now I have never heard Tim say anything about being violent before. That nigga really must be mad, but if anyone should be mad, it should be me because I came out of my pocket for damn near the whole ticket of the club. OK, first, fellows, let me go take a look at the spot and see exactly what needs to be done and see how long it would take to reopen again. Call Big Red and tell him to meet me down there too. I want to know what all this shit is about. People could have really got hurt.

    Chapter 2

    Jackie

H i, Tiff girl, this is Jackie.

Hey, girl, how have you been?

I’ve been good. I was calling to let you know I was back in town for a little bit, and I want to see you while I’m here.

Ah, Jackie, I’m so glad to hear from you. It has been a while, and we have some catching up to do. The kids get out of school around three, and I will meet up with you at the mega mall. Will that work for you?

Yes, that’s perfect. I will see you then.

Tiffany is so funny every time I get with her. She has me rolling. She is the kind of girl that doesn’t take no shit from anyone. Get on her bad side and your ass is out. I remember one time she sliced all this dude’s tires just because he wouldn’t pay for her to get her nails done. She is a trip, but that’s my girl. I’m going through a thing right now because I need to really talk to Chuck, as I haven’t totally been honest. I told him I was only in town for a few days, but really I’m here for good. Truth is I lost my job, and on top of that, I am homesick, and I have been missing him too. I just have barged in and haven’t even let him know that I really do not have anywhere to go, or really I don’t want to go anywhere else. I hope he hasn’t moved on with his life or has no one that he is really feeling right now because that will just crush my heart. I remember how he used to hold me in his arms with them big, broad, manly hands and arms of his, and the way he kisses me, he would have me going crazy too. His lips are so soft, and after we made love, he always leaves my pussy throbbing, and the way he sucks it is something different. Thinking about the devil, here he is now. I hear some loud music outside. Yep, it’s him, and it looks like he is in a rush too. He came in and slammed the door.

    Baby, what’s wrong?

Some niggas shot the club up last night, and I have to get dressed and meet the guys there to see what all damages there are, will you be here when I get back? I want to take you out and do some catching up with you. Maybe we can go to one of our favorite spots and get something to eat.

Yeah, that’s cool, but I’m supposed to meet with Tiffany around three or four. Can we do it after that?

    Sure, no problem.

    Chuck Slipped Up

When she mentioned Tiffany’s name to me, my heart stopped. I had to pause for a second because I slipped up and fucked her, and I didn’t want Jackie to find out about that. That might mess my chances up for sure now of me getting any more of that ass. Oh well, it is what it is. On top of that, she was why I had to change my number in the first place. I shouldn’t have been so stupid to fuck the crazy bitch. When Jackie left for Houston, she just kept coming by my place bringing me food and checking on me like she really cared. Really she was trying to get some dick and a nigga with a little change. That’s all she wanted. Baby, look, I got to go. Take this key to the house so you can lock up, and this is the number to my cell. Give me a call when you get done hanging out with your girl, and I’m looking forward to hearing about your job back in Texas.

All that’s cool, Chuck, but before you leave, I need to talk to you about something.

What wrong, boo? You seem upset.

No, it’s not that, baby. It’s just that I don’t have anywhere to go, and on top of that, I’m not going back to Texas because I lost my job, and I didn’t want to tell you because I was embarrassed, and truth is I wanted to come back home anyway. I was missing you.

That’s all? You can stay here as long as you like. You already know that I don’t have any problem with you being here. Plus, I will love to have some company. Damn! When she told me that, I was so happy to hear them words come out of her mouth. Damn! I almost lost my mind. I didn’t know she felt like that for real. This is great, and I have been lonely for a while. It would be good to have a female companion around. This time I might even pop the big question Tim had done it and so have Lil Tony. I was the only one not married. When I pulled up at the club, the Club Soda sign was hanging down. Lil Tony was right. They had really messed things up. Big Red was pulling up at the same time as me in his purple Cadillac with a look on his face only a mother can love. Red, what the fuck have you got yourself into?

Those niggas been trying to buy the spot from me for a long time now, but they kept playing broke or they just kept acting like it anyway.

Well, what did they cops say when they came last night?

Well, you know the rules. We don’t snitch for shit, so I didn’t tell them any names, but I should have ‘cause that was some foul ass shit.

Right. Well, let’s go inside. I want to see what’s going on and look at the damages because the outside is not looking too pretty right now, and I’m thinking about reconsidering our negotiation.

Now look, Chuck, the contracts have already been signed. So technically, of last night, this is your place, but I will give you some cash back to help pay for some of the damages that was encountered because of me. I knew you would want to know how much out-of-pocket expense you would have to pay to get the club back up and running, so I called some friends of mine that do this type of work, and I got you a sweet deal for around thirty thousand, and the place will look even better than before. So I think if I give you at least half that amount, we should have a deal, and I think that is fair.

I tell you what. If your people can hook me for that price, I want you to give me 20,000 grand for the damages, and I want to throw in another 20,000 grand for the place to get a pool in the back where the second dance floor is—you know, some exotic shit.

Damn, man! You’re really trying to do some things.

I am. So who are these Brooklyn court niggas anyway?

Well, the one who runs this gang is Spanky. He got the whole southeast side of Kentwood sold up, and what he wants, he gets.

But he want get my damn club. You can bet your frail little balls on that homeboy, I don’t start no shit with no one, and I’m damn sure isn’t about to take none from Spanky, Brooklyn Court or whoever they fuck they think they are.

    Chapter 3

    Chuck

Even though the club was all fucked up now, I was still happy for some reason. Maybe it’s because Jackie had come back to town. I remember when we first met, we were going to the community college downtown. She was studying law, and I was taking up computer technology. She was one of the finest red bones I had ever seen in my life, and she was too damn smart. On top of that, she had all the right answers to all the questions I asked. And on top of that, she had some of the best cooking a nigga could ever dream of tasting. Her mom and pop were in a terrible accident and were killed before she had graduated, so she basically had no one. They had moved here from Minneapolis, Minnesota, because her pop was promoted to a new job here in Grand Rapids. Her parents were good God-fearing people and were in church faithfully all the time. They invited me, so a month before the accident, I went with them one Sunday, and the people there were dancing, speaking in tongues, prophesying, and all that good stuff. It was something different for me because I grew up in a home with only one parent, and all my mom did was smoke weed all day and watched soap operas. I think that’s why I never got into smoking the shit because the smell would just make me sick to my stomach. But don’t get me wrong. I love my mom, though, because she was there for me, and my pop—well, let’s just say that my pop never gave a shit. When he died, I didn’t even go to his funeral. Even when he was in the hospital on his deathbed he called me and asked me to come see him, I asked the nigga, What for? Maybe I should have gone, but at the time, I was so bitter that it didn’t matter to me if he lived or died. I remember one time when he bought me a big wheel when I was five years old. What the fuck I’m going to do with this now? I was thinking. My mom seen this look of disgust on my face and said, Son, just appreciate it because he didn’t have to do that. No, his punk ass didn’t. I made a promise to myself that if I ever have any kids, I would be damn if I don’t be in their life and do right by them because that is what a man is supposed to do no matter what you and the baby’s mom is going through, and on top of that, I was the nigga’s only son. He had left my mom before I was even born, and somehow she managed to raise a bright boy—at least I would like to think so. After I left the club, I was starting to have doubts because I really didn’t want to get into it with these Brooklyn court cats, because they wanted my spot for some odd reason, but what the hell? It was too late to back out now. Then I couldn’t get Jackie off my mind. She was so gorgeous with her high cheekbones and her slanty eyes; she looked like a Chinese mixed with Indian. She had some 33D-size breasts and an ass that would make Jennifer Lopez sit the fuck down. My blood rushes and I get aroused just thinking about her. I should have come clean earlier and just told her the truth about what happened between me and Tiffany because it really wasn’t anything but a fuck, and she didn’t suck dick good either. I’m gone have to let her know what happened, but I just don’t want to hurt her. But I feel that she does have a right to know. I’m going to call Tim and see what he has to say because he always knows what to do in situations like this. Besides, Jennifer done caught his ass up so many times, and she still is there,
